Notes / Commercial Description:
par·a·digm \per-ə-dīm\ an outstandingly clear or typical example.

There are only a few moments in life where an opportunity arises that may possibly change the way you view the world. This is one of those moments. What you have in your hand is an outstandingly clear or typical example of what an American Brown Ale should be. Paradigm Brown Ale is a highly hopped brown ale that transcends the characteristics found in many examples of the style. The wonderful hop aroma will be apparent the second you pop the cap. Your first sip will present you with frothy foam and the taste of delicious chocolate malt that is more typical of a darker colored beer. The malt flavors will carry the hop bitterness through the entire sip and it finishes with a smooth texture that leaves your mouth watering for more. At this moment your view of the beer world has changed forever.

Mild roast aroma with a hint of pine. Beer pours a nearly opaque dark brown, with a light tan head. The hop presence lets you know that this is an American Brown ale, with some pine and resin notes, fading into a roasted finish with a hint of coffee. Slightly slick mouthfeel, with a full body. This is a great beer to drink on a cold, rainy, autumn day.

On-tap 3/19/2017 at Natty Greene’s Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep brown color, with a short beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains roasted malts, maple, nuts, caramel and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty roasted malt character followed by sweet flavors of maple and caramel. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

bottle # 16102190.

Chestnut brown body with tall white head that has good retention and leaves lots of lacing on the glass. Smells of toasted, nutty, and roasted malt with an earthy and light pine hop aroma. Good balance between hops and malt, but the bitterness wins over and lingers on in the finish. Nutty and toasted grains in the malt profile with a hint of brown sugar. Mostly earthy hops and some pine resin. Overall this is a well made brown ale, but I wouldn't mind if the hops were dialed back a little bit to let the malt profile be the star of the show.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Light tan one finger top, slightly creamy with a Swiss cheese like bubbled collar. Dark walnut brown body and straightforward appearance and thick sheets of lace.

Muted toasted malts and more of a sweet nutmeg quality on the nose. Hints slightly maple sugar as well. Earth like hop presence.

Palate brings some interesting qualities. Black iPad hop flavor slightly juicy but also floral. Stinging hop with a touch of milky chocolate but some very boozy sweetness. Quite a bit of a warm finish, hitting also phenolic clove and alcohol.

Some very good character but hits just a bit too alcohol hot and sweet.

A friend of mine sent me this hoppier version of a Brown Ale (but not stout), and it might be the best brown ale I've had. I can really taste a paradigm shift happening.

Look - It has a cloudy golden hue with a very thick and frothy white head.

Aroma - It has a nice toasty aroma with caramel and a tad of citrus.

Taste - I can taste toasted malts, caramel, dark chocolate, maybe a hint of coffee.

Overall - It is light/medium and easy drinking.

*One of the best brown ales i've tried*

Pours dark with a finger+

Amazing aroma, toasted caramel malts and some herbal grassy notes from generous hopping.

7% abv goes unnoticed.

I cant get over the nose on this. Like a chocolatier in a coffee house with the windows open in a large field after mowing.

I don't love the packaging but this is a delicious american brown ale worth picking up if you see it.

A bit hoppy for a brown. It was a pleasant brown. Poured a nice dark brown with a finger of head made up of tightly knit bubbles. This beer brought with it some expectation having a reputation as one of the better beers from Kelsen.
The hoppiness was different and appreciated. It created a nice balance to the beer. But in a time when breweries are adding crazy hops to everything , they managed to have a delicate touch with this, not overpowering and staying true to the style.

Had on tap. Pours clear, chestnut in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is toasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, and citrusy hops. Nice balance of bitter and sweet. First beer from Kelsen and it has me curious to try more from them. Worth seeking out.
