Tesserae Double IPATesserae Double IPA
Notes: The name refers to the Mosaic Hops used in the beer. A “tesserae” is a small block of stone, tile, glass, or other material used in the construction of a mosaic. This beer’s name is another way that we celebrate the beauty of small unassuming sources of large scale impact (our definition of a trimtab). Mosaic hops unfold layers of tropical and herbaceous flavors and aromas that make Tesserae one of our most popular beers.

12oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 3.49. No apparent canning date. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku. Enjoyed 7/2/18.

Pours a cloudy deep orange with a finger and a half cap of white head. Minimal retention.

Aromas of orange, melon and berries with just a hint of malt sweetness.

Flavors of citrus peel, underripe melon, pineapple core, a floral bitterness, some vague bread and an occasional nip of alcohol.

Medium body with lively carbonation. Cantaloupe and orange play on the palate in the finish.

TrimTab is fairly new to the Georgia market so I decided to try them out. Tesserae is quite a tasty double IPA that does well showcasing Mosaic. I’ll be trying more from these guys.

Pretty light in color, straw yellow with pretty heavy lace around the glass.

Sweet, malty nose. Bitter, piney hops are present but the malt overpowers the aromas overall.

Sweet, piney, floral, dank, and malty. A little of everything but the floral, grassy notes linger and it’s a little off-balanced. Not a bad IPA, but I’ve come to expect more from Trim Tab.

Medium body and carb, soft, smooth beer. Bitterness lingers, light stickiness.

Pours a mostly clear golden orange with two fingers dense head.
Smells of grapefruit, orange zest, a little pine, and sweet malts.
Taste follows the nose, the honey like sweetness is a bit heavy for my tastes but the citrusy flavors try to balance it out.
Medium body, slight alcohol presence.
Overall a good beer, not outstanding but good enough for me to try some of their other options.

Look: hazy golden amber color with a medium sized white head.
Aroma: bright blueberry, some resin, mild alcohol.
Taste: somewhat disappointing. Some Mosaic notes were there, such as blueberry and some resin, but the taste faded into a dry and somewhat hot finish. Malt backbone was in the background and allowed the hops to shine.
Feel: medium bodied and nice for the style. Good carbonation.
Overall: a nice DIPA but not a standout.

At brewery June 2018

Pours gold, with a white-winish hue; Nary a nose, slightly sweet + boozy, lacking any interesting hop flavors, definitely easy to drink. Decent but unremarkable.

Pours a murky burnt orange with little to no head or lacing. You can smell the booziness along with the malts and citrus spice. Taste is very smooth and delicious. Velvet smooth mouth feel with a boozy bite at the end. Not quite up to the Snake Handler level but good enough to buy again. 4pk cans at Target and 2 will get you where you want go.

Freah can poured to Creature Comforts glass.
L: Beautiful. Hazy deep orange. Medium to small, light amber white head. Some lacing. Had to get aggressive on the pour to produce a good head.
S: Initial smell was near perfect, very pleasing, soft yet strong, and enticing. Tropical, candied fruity hops, mosaic. After a few sips, it still smelled good, but just a little boozy.
T: Tastes very good. Very well balanced and flavorful. Fruity, delicate. Not too bitter. Just a smidge of booze.
F: Great DIPA feel, good thickness, pleasant bite.
O: Trim Tab Tesserae is a very solid DIPA. I was so happy to see this at Chelsea Citgo. I've had this local brew on my want list for over a year. It did not disappoint. One of Alabama's best DIPA's.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Teku glass.
Hazy orange.
Smells resinous and herbal with a hint of tropicality.
Tastes thick and rich, with loads more fruit than still-evident garlicky hops. Candied pineapple.
Great double IPA. Highly recommended.

I will be happy when this is in cans. With a high ABV I'd def sip this one. That smoothness is beautiful in a brandy snifter. Balanced with just the right amount of sweetness and bitterness with an extremely smooth mouthfeel and beautiful creamy head, it's one of my favorites when I can get it.
I wouldn't drink more than two, it's light carbonation and smoothness is very enticing and deceiving at the same time

I tried this beer at the brewery. It poured a clear copper with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had tropical citrus. The taste was sweet with citrus hop. The Mouthfeel is fuller in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

Poured on draft from local bottle shop.

A: Pours a golden sunshine yellow with two finger white head. Nice retention and lacing.

S: Grapefruit and orange peel. Biscuit malts mixed with honey. Touch of pine in the back.

T: Follows the nose fairly closely. Some juicy citrus notes balanced by a natural sweetness.

M: Medium to full body and nice carbonation. Finish is sweet and slightly bitter.

O: Very nice DIPA. Look forward to sampling more Trim Tab in the future.

I had this at the Rocket City Brewfest in Huntsville, AL. I don't feel ready to give a long descriptive of the beer, but let me say this was the beer that we kept returning to at the end. Pretty nice centennial and mosaic hops come out with a wonderful feel and finish. Had us wanting (and receiving) lots of refills. I can only hope these guys are able to add a canning line for this one. Fantastic! I'll make a road trip for this one
