Citrus IPACitrus IPA
Notes: In this day and age, there are seemingly infinite varieties of flavor compounds and aromatic properties available in the different breeds of hops that exist. Among them all, there is an undeniable “profile” that sticks out as most desirable by American IPA drinkers; that of the Citrusy hops of Washington and Oregon. “Citrus” is certainly not our only IPA… but it was our first, and we wanted to make a statement. We at Funk Brewing Company believe in balance, complexity, and artistic brewing instead of “extreme beers”. That’s why we sought out to synthesize a beer that was masterfully crafted to accentuate a massive American Citrus hop profile while retaining our standards for balance, and sophistication. Through various test batches, water profile manipulation, and uncommon hopping techniques, we found a way to offer you what we feel is the epitome of the American Citrus hop in a glass. The utilization of Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, and an experimental hop we like to call “LemonBomb”, give “Citrus” huge flavors and aromas of grapefruit, blood orange, pine, passionfruit, mango, and pink guava, balanced by a clean malt bill of Belgium’s finest pilsner malt and our neutral American yeast. This will forever and always be our go-to IPA and we hope it becomes yours as well.

A: hazy; medium gold in color; 2 finger finely pored ivory head that receded to a wispy cap; nice lacing;

S: grapefruit, orange, and a hint of lime;

T: somewhat malty up front; follows the nose in a muted way from start through the finish; mild bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: not enough hop character in the flavor;

A very hazy IPA that appears to be a juice bomb. The aroma is fantastic and the grapefruit strong. The grapefruit comes on strong and is really nice. A very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. No bitterness at all. This is a really great example of a juice bomb I read about on these pages. Canned on 07/15/19. Poured into a fancy glass I bought special for these 16 ounce cans that is a Bell's Spiegelau. Works great for IPA's. Special Thanks to @TheIPAHunter

Funk Brewing Company "Citrus IPA"
12 fl. oz. can, coded "11/16/17 16:42:43" and sampled on 12/03/17
$2 @ Weis, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Labeled at 6.7% ALC/VOL. Contract brewed in Chicago, IL. A fairly rough pour has brought up a three finger thick head of rocky white foam over a hazy golden body. The aroma is bright, and citrusy as expected with a distinct grapefruit character, and some grassiness as well. The flavor follows suit with an even more impressive citrusy flavor atop some lightly sweet golden malt. There's some tropical character too, perhaps pineapple and mango, and a bit of pine. It's solidly bitter but not overdone, and it finishes dry with some residual fruitiness that fades to leave only pine behind.

Actually followed up a Pipeworks Crimson Snapper with this. Considering I thought Snapper was Citrusinesis on steroids, I was afraid this one was going to pale by comparison. It doesn't. Creamy head accompanies dark orange color. Strong tart citrus notes blend with strong hops on both nose and taste. Very well balanced, extremely refreshing and crisp for an India Pale Ale.

I'm too busy enjoying this beer to write, so I'll let Funk do the talking:
