Notes / Commercial Description:
In the San Francisco spirit of innovation, Villager blends classic Northwest hops with contemporary ale yeast to establish a delicately constructed IPA. Villager's hop aroma is both citrusy and floral, complemented by notes of stone fruit and tropical flavor in the finish. A true expression of the cultural contrasts that embody our city by the bay, Villager brings a new twist to this West Coast style.

Got this super fresh in Whole Foods. Nice light gold color with decent inch white head. Aroma was a little on the faint side but was decent tropical/citrus. Taste had a burst of bitter followed by a surprising honey malt flavor that balanced nicely. Finish was mildly bitter. Nothing crazy going on but a very solid enjoyable IPA. Reminded me a little of Lagunitas IPA.

They say on the can this is a San Francisco style IPA but I was not aware of such a style :) Pours a light straw color, decent head. Carbonation is touch high IMO. Aroma is bready, herbal/floral, not much in the way of citrus notes despite what they claim on the above description. Taste is hard pinpoint. There are some malty bready notes mixed with a piney hop character that tastes more in line with a straight pale ale - not hoppy enough for a typical IPA (this wouldn't be the first beer that has this categorical problem.) This is not a terrible beer, not sure if I'll get it again.

Brilliant translucent gold, very little head, but nice lacing

Smells of lemon rind, a bit of honey

Tastes of bright citrus and some pine

Almost a creamy mouthfeel, crisp, slightly sweet, not bitter at all

Very enjoyable, and sessionable. In this can format, I'll take a sixer to the beach

Pours brilliant gold with one finger eggshell white head. Nose is well balanced between floral notes, citrus, ripe stone fruit, and some dankness. Nice pop of bitterness up front with a decent but of dankness giving way to some malty sweetness and lots of peach. Finishes semi dry with a nice intermingling of dank and sweet. Very enjoyable.

A reliable, middle-of-the-road IPA. The can/label design wins major points for this artist and beer drinker, but the flavors and finish of the Villager IPA isn't enough to warrant major kudos. It's worth trying, but it's nothing special (excepting the aesthetics).
