Very Good
Notes: Manzanita is an imaginative take on the classic German rauchbier, combining traditional ingredients with inspiration from the Northern California wilderness. An assertive, multi-layered smoke aroma -- courtesy of beechwood-smoked malts and charred manzanita branches -- gives way to a light-bodied structure and a surprisingly delicate balance of flavors: nutty, herbal, sweet and savory. A beer for a campfire on a crisp fall night.

A 12 fl. oz. can, canned on 30th November 2018, ‘manz in cans’. Poured into a Mikkeller pint glass.

Appearance: A clear amber brown colour with a one finger light beige head that dissipated quickly and left only sparse to no lacing.

Aroma: Smoky, caramel malt and toffee.

Taste: Moderate sweet caramel malt, light toffee, smoky charred wood and a light lemon finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Aromas wasn’t bad, but a little weak, and taste while not complex, tasted nice with a good balance between sweetness and smoke.

Very disappointed. Bot a 6 pack and so far 3 of them have gone flat (ie the cans lost their pressure) with no sign of a puncture. The one I have had is ok but not great. I won't buy again. I will try it if I find it on tap in the North bay.

This sh**t is god awful. Don't be fooled by these hipsters. If you want to drink coals off the BBQ be my guest. Fort Point makes many other delicious brews, avoid this one.

Bought in a 22oz bomber from Whole Foods SoMa SF. No date marked, but the beer-guy said it came in earlier that week from Fort Point. Poured into Tulip

Look: Dark amber, fairly opaque. Thin ivory head quickly dissipates, leaving a slight heady ring.
Smell: Obvious smoke. Meaty, almost bacon-esque. Slight nutty notes.
Taste: Same meatiness. Almost tastes like a schwarzbier, though lighter, and less aggressive. Not terribly effervescent, which stands to reason for a smoked beer.
Feel: Weakest part of the beer. With a flavor profile like this, I was hoping for a stickier, more full-bodied beer. Instead, it's a pretty typical amber body, quickly pulling over the tongue, and leaving little behind. Not bad, but it felt a little mismatched to the taste.
Overall: I like this. It's unconventional for Fort Point, and I'm glad to see them taking changes on new reserve beers.

Bomber
Pours brown like cola with quickly dissipating bubbly mocha head. Very smoky like wood smoke in aroma and flavor. Sweet caramel malted barley.

What the name means is it's a collaboration with Germany’s Freigeist. And in addition to the beechwood smoked malt is a dose of what they describe as "charred manzanita branches." But for all that it's not overly smoky and retains the flavor of an Altbier. Aroma, however, is delightfully fruity and smokey, but elegantly subtle.

Color is lovely dark brownish amber with a deep pile of foam. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with carbonation. Malty and rich, yet refreshing. Hints of orange and caramel with a crisp finish. This is one of the best smoke-flavored beers I've had. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods.

This is from the Dec 2016 batch.

What a fun smoke beer. The aroma reminds me of cherry wood smoke. It's seems a little sweeter and not as roasty. Like a good altbier, there's a hit of caramel malts, followed a subtle, earthy finish.

Dark Amber color with medium head. Aroma a pleasantly roasty. Definitely not overpowering. Taste is immediately smokey and the fades into nice toasty malt flavor. Highly recommend.

Nice looking beer served from tap into tulip glass. Deep opaque brown, solid meniscus lacing that remains throughout the drink.
Nice roasted malt note, sweetish but not overpowering.
Taste is strongly smoked, at little smoke goes a loooong way, and this is a little too far for me.
Finish has a bit of bitter, a fair portion of maltiness, but cloying smoke.

I didn’t realize this was the colab with Freigiest. Cool!
Pours amber brown in color.
Lightly smoked with a pleasing malt backing. This gave a nice character to the tasty altbier base. Enjoyed it immensely.
