On tap at the Hog's Apothecary in Oakland.
Not heavy on the dark Belgian flavors you'd expect, no big figs or prunes or purple fruits. Subtle. Not overly sweet, but a touch sticky, caramel. Reads more like a soft barleywine. Bourbon not huge. It weighs in at 13%, but you could have fooled me. Yeah, subtle for a big BBA beer.

Murky beer. Slight off white cream head.
Smell has faint Belgian spices. Not very aromatic.
Taste is less than average for a quad imo. I would definitely reach for a abt 12 or three philosophers over this. I get no barrel either. It's a ok beer. But nothing special imo.
Again a so so feel. Decently smooth.
I think there's a reason it's retired. Just a so so showing. As far as barrel aged quads go this doesn't even compete. Stickee monkee blows this away in every aspect. I would not buy again. Just too many better options.

$ 21.57 (Including shipping)/bomber ($ 0.98/oz) from Blackwell’s, San Francisco, CA.
Undated capped bottle stored at 42 degrees. Served at 60 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Aroma – weak caramel, lasts.
Head small (Maximum one cm, aggressive pour), tan, dense creamy head, average retention time, diminishing to an irregular three to eight mm ring fed by effervescence and a thin complete layer with rocks.
Lacing – excellent. Complete three dimensional rings of tiny bubbles.
Body – muddy brown, opaque, some effervescence.
Flavor – begins moderately sour with some caramel notes. Allowing it to warm on my tongue makes it a little less sour with a burst of fizziness, but still not palatable. No hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl. Also, no fruitiness, no bourbon, no barrel.
Palate – full, creamy, soft carbonation.
About the best I can say about this beer is it has nice lacing and well-hidden alcohol. I’m going to hope that this is a contaminated bottle and not avoid Fort Point in the future, although it’ll be a while before I spend $ 20 on another bottle of their beer. The remaining 18 ounces of this bottle will be donated to the bacteria living in my sewer system.
Appearance 3.75, Aroma 3.75, Flavor 3, Palate 3.75, Overall 3. Rating 3.3, rDev -4.1%.

First thing's first.
Very good beer/barley wine
Quite expensive, but worth trying.
One of the best really big beers in my opinion is sierra Nevada Bigfoot aged in bourbon barrels.
This reminded me some more of that. Not a smooth though not as well-balanced.
In a nutshell it was a bit too thick. Tasted a lot like burnt sugar which isn't bad. Bourbon barrel really came through as well as the alcohol. I recommend trying it if you like big beers that are aged in oak , like I do

This is a Belgain-Style Quadruple Ale Aged In Bourbon Barrels. It wasn't one of the worst beers I've had, it left a lingering after taste. It was also oily and not much body, it's a beer I probably won't be getting anytime soon.
Cheers
