Poured a reddish-brown body with minimal head and lace. The aroma has some malts like caramel/toffee and sweetness from candi sugar but also getting dark fruits (mostly black cherry). Thick bodied yet smooth, not sticky, and only slightly syrupy at times, the beer is sweet and enjoyable which makes up for lack of complexity and really lack of taste/flavor with exception of some black cherry sweetness and slightly boozy finish.

Had at the brewery yesterday.Came in a goblet a really dark brown with an almost non existent head atop, hard to pinpoint the color.Alcohol soaked raisins and figs in the nose along with deep brown sugar notes, alot of alcohol.Spiced yeasty flavors up front on the palate followed by candied figs and raisins with that alcohol being prevalent thru to the finish. The fig and raisin flavors mixed with the clove-like spice of the phenols go well together and makes for nice night cap-like beer.Well done.

Appearance: pours a deep amber to garnet color.a centimeter or two of a tannish head with moderate retention. dark and opaque but has some nice brightness when held to the light.
Smell: dark fruits, spicy yeast, clove and light banana.light toasty malts. some vanilla
Taste: opens with some belgian yeast character, mostly spicy character, followed by clove and some lighter banana. some dark fruits come in with some prunes and golden raisins. some toasted malts come through.
Mouthfeel: medium to full bodied. some syrupy qualities and a fair amount of residual sweetness. drinkable with little little signs of alcohol, just a little bit of warmth on the very backside.
Overall: a nice BSDA. just lacking a little bit of flavor, somehow things just come off a little bit blander than the style should really be in my opinion. all in all a great addition to the Virginia beer scene, I would fit this in a bit more regularly if it were a bit more along the higher end 6 pack or even 4 pack price.

Pours a dark brown color with a strong head. Nose immediately reveals a strong aroma of dark fruit with some candi sugar. Exactly what a Belgian Strong Ale should smell like. The flavor matches the smell. A little more dark fruit then I'd like, but overall an excelent Belgium beer.

A: The beer is hazy dark brownish red in color. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that died down, leaving only a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark fruits are present in the nose along with strong notes of candi sugar.
T: As one would expect from the smell, the taste is rather sweet and has strong flavors of candi sugars along with notes of dark fruits.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and slightly syrupy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: For a 10% abv beer, this is rather drinkable because the alcohol doesn't stand out that much in the taste. It would have be nicer if there was a little more dark fruits and less candi sugars in the taste.
