Notes / Commercial Description:
Our king is green. Though his reign may seem monstrous, his subjects are provided the most aromatic of treasures. And because we don’t anticipate his throne being usurped any time soon, we have crafted an offering in his name to conjure the ephemeral wonders of his realm. Viridi Rex is our double dry-hopped Double IPA. Sacrificing over four pounds of hops per barrel, we have evoked potent notes of mango, papaya, orange, and an ever-so-sinister warming sensation on the back of the tongue.

16oz can from Greenville Beer Exchange (Greenville, SC). 3.74. No apparent canning date. Served in an oversized Bruery snifter. Enjoyed 6/17/18.

Pours an opaque but rather brilliant yellow with almost three full fingers of white fluff. Plenty of retention- from the near full blanket, to jagged crown and random but generous smattering of lace.

Fairly subtle nose with notes of citrus and hay.

Some citrus, grassy, herbal hops in the fairly bitter flavor. There is an almost burnt caramel note and deceptively low alcohol presence.

Resinous hefty feel with weak carbonation. Mellow but distinctly bitter hoppy aftertaste.

Edmund’s Oast does an ok job here. Viridi Rex doesn’t do much to stand out in a crowded field, with the primary differentiating attribute seeming to be hiding its alcohol content quite well.

No canning date; my first beer from Edmund's Oast in South Carolina...

Pale gold and lightly hazed with a white mousse head a few fingers high... Nice profile of fruits both tropical and orchard, and an undertone of both fresh and dank pine... Brighter citric notes and breezy pine airs lighten this 9.5% abv beer nicely... The bitterness eclipses the sweetness, uncommon in the age of the NEIPA, and there is a nice tack of shellac on this otherwise smooth-bodied ale... Moderate carbonation and a clean finish, medium-ish body, and a dangerous drinkibility...

I was unsure about committing to a 4-pack purchase of an unfamiliar beer from an unfamiliar brewer, but I've got no regrets now... Recommended...

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a snifter glass. Had a golden yellow color and a clear consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Pretty good lacing.

S: A nice aroma of hops, tropical fruit, malt, and citrus.

T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (mostly in the finish), lots of tropical fruit (mango, in particular), a good shot of hops (not overdone), and a little citrus (orange). A sweet and tangy flavor, much more subtle than the typical DIPA. In general, the fruit and hops get along with the other elements, making for a balanced taste.

F: An average amount of carbonation with a slick, but smooth, finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is an extremely solid, easy to drink DIPA. Very much worth a look.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light amount of carbonation. It poured with a short white head.
S: Light aromas of papayas and orange citrus are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of orange citrus along with hints of tropical fruits and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is exceptionally well drinkable for something that is 9.5% abv and completely masks any traces of alcohol from the taste.

Nicely done house brewed DIPA with citrus nose and palette. Head was bubbly like soap but faded way too fast. Body on the lighter side which went well with the food but may be lacking for those looking for a meal in a glass.

Served in a white wine style glass. Color is perfect. Smell is utterly tropical fruit. Taste is tropical, but piney as well. Really nice beer.
