Very Good
DunkelDunkel
Notes: Dunkel” means dark, and our Dunkel copies the traditional brown Munich lager that was the most widely drunk beer in Bavaria at the turn of the 20th Century. Dunkel is made from amber colored Munich malt. Germans approach dark beer from a different direction than their Belgian and British neighbors. Instead of using a small amount of high-color, dark-roasted or caramelized malt, Germans use a lot of low or medium color malt that avoids the acrid bitter roastiness or burnt sugar flavors found in stouts and porters. Dunkel is a medium -bodied beer with a slightly sweet, toasted bread crust malt flavor and smooth finish accentuated with just enough noble bitterness to balance the malt.

Draft pint at Minsky's.
Hazy dark brown with an auburn highlight. Thin layer of off white foam.

Sweet nutty aroma, malty with some caramel notes.
Taste is lightly sweet at first, nutty malt and light caramel flavors. Unfiltered with more body than most traditional filtered dunkels. Easy enough to finish though I didn't have another. Fairly basic, but enjoyable.

On-draught @ a shit bar in the shit Kansas City airport for a shit $8.99 USD.

Pours a gorgeous creamy khaki head with a terrific soft consistency. Average retention - ~2 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes. Body colour is a hazy pale brown. Nontransparent; quasitranslucent.

Aroma: Brown bread. Medium sweet. Clean well attenuating lager yeast...no esters or phenols. Malt is the star here; there's no overt hoppy or yeasty (or off-) flavour. Aromatic intensity is average.

Taste follows the aroma; this is a true to style simple straightforward dark lager with a no-nonsense brown bread taste and limited depth of flavour. The "liquid bread" descriptor warrants mention not only for its bready taste but also its plump filling medium-bodied texture.

Smooth, wet, not unrefreshing.

No hoppy or yeasty flavours...just brown malt and 2 row sweetness.

Those accustomed to the style will find this true to form if a bit shallow. Its German yeast profile, appropriate attenuation, and simplistic bready taste make it an enjoyable stab at an uncommonly attempted style here in North America. Not world class work, but surprisingly competent...one might expect an American brewery would overhop and try to cater to current trends by relying on additives like coffee or maple, but KC Bier wisely delivers a beer true to tradition.

Mmmmmmmm what an easy drinking delicious brown lager. Just enough hops to balance the sweet maltiness out. I buy this beer every time I see it on tap. Easily one of my new favorite beers

Dark copper and garnet hues with the body; very thin and wispy head. Malty taste with a roasted edge; low-key hop bitterness. Medium body; semi-smooth mouthfeel.

A rock-solid dunkel bringing some nice roasted grain elements here. There is a nice balance between the gentle sweetness subtle bitterness. Great balance, feel, and overall quality for the style.

Experienced on tap at the Best Western Plus in Lawrence, KS.

Pours an effervescent copper with 3 fingers of rocky tan head. Nice head retetion & slightly better than average

S: Brown bread & a littlle grassyness

T: Rich brown bread & caramel notes, pretty dry up front. More rich breadyness, a little grassyness & dryness as this warms, plus some woody hops. Finishes dry, malty with a nice brown bread twang & just a little herbal hoppyness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

A great job on this style, lovely body for medium ABV beer

Appearance: Pours clear and burnt orange verging on chestnut; the head springs to two fingers and sticks nicely; a few shards of lacing

Smell: Toasted brown bread and molasses; a hint of powdered chocolate

Taste: Toasted brown bread forward, with the molasses and powdered chocolate emerging; the sweetness lingers, after the swallow, though there is a dry element to the finish as well; some lager twang at the end

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A pretty impressive dunkel

Enjoyed on tap at st. Andrews golf courage in overland park, kansas.

Excellent complex aroma. Deep amber almost brown. Very slight haze but probably isue of too cold of serving temperature.

Rich, malty but balanced. Complex. Very nice mouthfeel. Smooth. Rich but not cloying. Tiny hint of spices

I like this one. Best German-style beer I have had in some time.

On tap. Poured a clear, light brown color with a large, white head of bubbly foam. It smelled of toasted caramel, toffee and floral notes. Sweet caramel and toffee with a mild bitterness.
