Appearance: Black as anything. A cola colored head with very nice retention and some thick lacing.

Nose: The chocolate malt comes through right away. Some dark sweet candied fruit in the middle.

Taste: Very nice mouthfeel, perfect carbonation. Biscuit and malty in just the right spots and just the right amount. There is a tiny bit of alcohol hotness at the end which sticks around for a while. Vinous and dry at the end

10.3% ABV - poured vigorously from a 22oz bomber into my Bruery tulip.

Opaque bistre body capped by a sliver of tan foam. Fine lacing; decent retention - the head can be reawakened with a swirl.

Complex but somewhat closed aromatics, suffused with dark chocolate, roast barley, burnt toast, dark rye, and treacle. Hints of hay, and Assam tea as well.

The flavor profile bursts open all that the nose promises, with each flavor challenging the preceding for dominance. Very long evolving finish suggests cocoa nibs, cedar, charcoal, and potting soil. The core is a gargantuan dark roast chocolate maltiness, lush and powerful. Alcohol is present but not fusel.

Medium-full bodied with zesty carbonation with low but present astringency and heat.

An excellent example of the style - definitely a meal in a glass (though not necessarily dessert as it finishes a bit dryer than most).

Barrel Aged is clear on the nose. Nice warm feel with a nice viscosity. Excellent flavor profile, well balanced bitter and sweet. Recommended of you like hearty high abv winter beers.

10.3% ABV per the label.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, molasses, char, and slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, molasses, burnt brown sugar, and char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice mix of roast, cocoa, and molasses all around.

Serving type: bottle.
