Every once in a while I'll drink a beer that totally changes my mind as to what the standard for that style should be. Andyman . . . Off the top of my head is the purest example of an American strong ale. Pours a deep beautiful ruby and brown with that hue or that glow the seasoned beer geeks know about. Terrific head retention and fantastic lacing throughout. Aromas are nutty and sugary with a candied scent that mirrors a fine and rich desert of luxurious proportions. Taste is similar but also has a Scottish ale touch going on that really makes this beer multi dimentional and complex. Feel is creamy, thick along with the right amount of carbonation. Overall . . . Perfect.

32oz growler filled at Heinen's in Pepper Pike, Ohio

Growler poured into a tulip. Pours a dark auburn with ruby hues; small light tan head that leaves nice retention and decent lacing. The aromas are full of caramel malts. Hints of toffee as well. Some citrus notes too. The flavors follow the nose. Nice balance between malts and hops. Lots of caramel and more toffee. Subtle hints of chocolate and cocoa. Some orange and grapefruit is in the mix. Fresh grass is there too. Slightly earthy. Some pine notes as well. Solid bitterness with some sweetness going on as well. Alcohol goes unnoticed. It's medium-bodied with active carbonation. Very smooth and easy to drink, but makes for a nice beer to savor.

Very nice beer for a great cause. I read it's brewed for children's charities in Columbus, so that's really cool! As for the beer, it has a similar profile to alot of their beers, but tamed. It reminds me of a hoppy red ale. Enjoyable stuff.

I had a sample of this over at the ohio tap room. Really enjoyed it a lot. It has a nice amber color and an excellent hoppy finish. This is one of my favorite styles, and this ASA an excellent example.

On tap at Fatheads in North Olmsted, OH.

Ruby red/brown cold with a fluffy, pillowy 2 finger head that last what seems like forever. Nice lacing sticks to the sides of the glass.

Smells of caramel malt, light hops and a touch of earthiness. Wish it smells stronger but it works.

Taste is quite unique. Not as sweet as I expected it to be. Pretty well balanced semi-sweet malts and a touch of hop bitterness at the finish.

Very smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel. Goes down way to easy.

This is a nice change of pace beer. Provides a nice blend of malts and hops without anything being dominant. Glad I tried and wouldn't mind having again sometime.
