Part of a tasting flight at the brewery. Straw in color, darkened by a drop of honey. Though the head was not that apparent in the tasting glass, some lacing clung to the glass.

The smell is grainy, with notes of roasted malt and faint banana.

The flavor is of wheat, sweet corn grain, toasty malt, some nuttiness, and dry hops on the back-end.

It is medium-bodied, showing some solid complexity. Very drinkable, even if not awe-inspiring.

bright golden yellow, with great clarity. Nice three inch high head of white foam, fizzled out after just a few moments and then finally left behind nothing, no side glass lace to speak of either. Good carbonation bubbling up throughout the session.

The aroma was extremely light. Some floral hops, hints of lemon, and grass, and a touch of wheat were about all you were picking up. Had nice bright profile though. very bright, and appropriate for summer taste. There was a decent hint of orange rind and lemon in the back, with a nice rounded wheat flavor, nothing shocking

A- Pours a clear golden yellow with pretty much no head, just a few bubbles. Bubbles line the edge of the glass and leaves a bit of lacing here and there.

S- Pretty light to nothing going on here at all. Something a little sweet maybe honey? Again nothing really here at all.

T- Again not a whole lot going on here. Very little honey and a wheat taste.

M- Fairly light in body and carbonation.

D- Fairly easy to drink, but there's just not a lot going on here.

Let's just say that I wasn't sure of what really to expect from a honey-wheat, as it seemed potentially disastrous. Yet Columbus is a fine brewery, so here we went (oh, and it came as a gift). The pour was nice & smooth, medium honey-colored with a short fluffy head that didn't stay too long. A mildly sweet aroma came through with a malt base & not much of any wheat. The flavor built on that with mild malts & sweetness that took over any hop or wheat qualities. An ok beer, but not so much a wheat offering in my opinion.

Sampled at the Columbus Brewing stand at the Columbus Ohio airport.

Clear amber colored beer with a small white head, I would expect more head from a wheat beer.

Smell is sweet with the tell tale traces of flower honey leaves behind. Fruity and a little funky there is the scent of orange blossom honey in this glass.

Taste is a little spicy like sagebrush honey but this quickly passes and gets to the hop bitterness and it is stronger than you would expect. Wheat malt is a secondary flavor here, this is mostly honey funk and hop bitters with wheat being a bench warmer.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Average type wheat beer here with a bit of a hop bite. This is OK but I really would prefer a Witbier or Hefeweizen.

Thanks to nrbw23 for this resupply.
Poured into a pint glass.
1 finger head that dissipated after 45 seconds or so.
Color is golden amber (like honey!!)
smell: wow the honey is very prevalent in the nose. I've never had a beer like this.
taste: the honey dominates here also. Not too sweet but the honey nectar is very noticeable and nice.
mouthfeel: pretty typical for a 5% abv ale.
drinkability: very nice. Very nice on a warm summer day. I wish this was available in Texas. A great summer day beer.

I know I've reviewed this beer before... Am I getting senile at 45 or did my original review get deleted???

I had this on tap at the CBC bar at Port Columbus airport. It was billed as a hefeweizen (by the bartender) but really it is not. By appearance alone you can tell this is more of an American Wheat Ale, it's crystal clear and golden colored. The aroma is neutral, just a touch of fruity esters. The taste is also neutral, pretty balanced but a little bitter in the after-taste. I found the mouthfeel to be pretty watery, drinkability is average as it's easy to drink but retains no desirable flavors.

Poured from the tap into a tasting glass

Appearance- Beer pours yeallow and clear with no hints of head. Lacing rims the sides and clings on the tasting glass.

Smell- Honey, perfume, that over powdery kind that old ladies wear. No hops, no wheat, nothing else really, very dissapointing nose.

Taste- Very little honey or wheat on the tongue. Tastes like a standard pale ale with a little sweetness. So much so that I had to try the other pales to make sure it was correctly placed. Sure enough, it's the right one. I've had this in the past and the honey was much more prevalent.

Mouthfeel- Creamy, lightly sweet, medium carbonation, very light bodied, not astringent.

Drinkability- Smooth and light. Probably very nice for the ladies, but I need more substantial stuff.

A - Pours clear and light copper to gold in color. Head was pretty minimal. The head that showed up stuck around for a while. Lacing was minimal.

S - Pale malt and some caramel aromas hit the nose first. There is also a grainy aroma in the middle. Something similar to sugar or honey is in the distant background.

T - Honey and wheat show up much more in the taste. They both come across as primary flavors. Midway through there are flavors of caramel and some spiciness. The background contains a decent amount of bitterness that seemss to bring the taste to a nice close.

M - Light bodied with not enough carbonation. Slightly dry finish.

D - Drinkability is really about average with this one. The carbonation is truly low enough to hinder drinkability.

A: Pours golden orange with a tinge of brown. Ample white head and some lacing as the beer recoils. Carbonation bubbles streaming from the bottom of the glass.

Smell: Malt profile and a definitive wheat smell. Not much to smell for some reason.

Taste: Course wheat strength and nice malt build. Cucumber, straw, hay, and a grainy texture. Nicely balanced.

Mouthfeel: Grainy and smooth drinking. Crisp and drying aftertaste with a captain crunch abrasiveness in the finish. Amusing

Drinkability: Nice for a beer of this style. Certainly a session beer with plenty of flavor and a balanced profile.

This beer poured a clear golden with a HUGE head. The aroma was initially sour then became floral and fruity with some malt noticeable. The taste is spicy. The hops are noticeable and bitterness is apparent. There is a biscuit like flavor as it warms. The mouthfeel is thin and crisp. The carbonation is noticeable and it has a dry finish. This beer is quite easy to drink.

Presentation: 12oz bottle in a classic conical pint glass

Poured loose and quick. Flat nose, full of straw, dull malt, echo of some honey sweetness. Some lite caramel emerges with some air & time, helping to give the nose some depth. A pencil's worth of very loose pearl white foam quickly dissipated into a thin floater with a edge ring that laced thinly. Color is nice - a slightly brassy-orange golden hue, crystal clear with bubbles occasionally rising thru it & quickly...odd.

Lite, thin, kinda abrasive, its bittersweet with leathered malts and a chalk-like, crude hop bite to it. Very easy to drink, but it does have a bitter quality that is a wee bit puckerish. The honey doesn't show up until the palate where the mouth-feel thickens and it grows a little syrupy, getting sweeter but by no means sweet.

A dry, crunchy feel begins a finish that is slightly bittersweet, more malted but subtly so, and leaves a thin, filmy aftertaste that is leathered and chewy.

This was OK. It wasn't bad, but also wasn't all that good. An slightly below average example of the style that would do in a pinch, but I know there are many that are far better. I'd drink it again if nothing else caught my eye, but I wouldn't go out of my way for one, or even buy one that was in my way.

I had the Ohio Honey Wheat on-tap at The Oak Room in Athens.

Appearance: gold color with a thin white head; pretty transparent in the glass (no haziness as in some wheat beers; i like the haziness)
Smell: not much here; some typical wheat beer smell but watered down some
Taste: not too impressive; this seems watered down; there's a hint of sweetness from the honey, i guess, in the aftertaste; a little bit of that hefeweizen flavor but also watered down
Mouthfeel: very thin for a wheat beer
Drinkability: not great tasting, but not too hard to drink

Overall, I was expecting more from the CBC. This could've been a bad batch.

Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear golden/copper color with about an inch white head which goes away pretty quickly. It smells mostly like grain/wheat, with just a bit of honey. It tastes mainly like wheat, I can't taste any honey at all. There's also a slight bitter finish. It's not bad tasting, but I expected a little more honey in the flavor. It's a relatively light beer, but it goes down pretty smooth with a small amount of carbonation. It's a decent beer overall, not great but not bad either. I could have this as a session beer every once in a while.

Split with my brothers (see preceding review). Pours a clear copper brown. Nothing too impressive. Smells of wheat and grain, mostly, with a hint of honey. Pretty good. The taste was also bready, and this got old after awhile. Not sweet at all, and virtually no finish to it. Fine in the mouth, but nothing to remark at here either. Mostly, it was uncomplicated and uninteresting, but easy and inoffensive.

Shared a bottle of this with my brothers. No freshness date. Pours a clear golden color. Small white head on it. Smells of mainly the wheat; very few traces of the honey. Taste is focused on the wheat, too. It really opens up upon sipping, although I think it could use more honey to balance it. A little carbonation makes this beer very light and easy for drinking. A good, refreshing summer drink.

Sampled at the Odds and Ends Tasting on 8/16/06: Pours clear golden with a thin off-white head that is gone almost immediately. Minimal lacing. Light sweet honey aroma. Light-bodied with a grainy, off bitter flavor and very little honey. The finish is mildly bitter and short. Could be better.
