Very Good
Notes: Crisp, golden lager

Beer is meant to be shared and nothing says summer like sharing a crisp, golden lager with friends. This traditional German style lager is brewed with a blend of European malts and hops to create a refreshing, easy-drinking beer.

Note- This was actually consumed back in September '10.

12 ounce bottle from Ryan011235, poured into a tall slender mug. Hazy gold with a bright white 1-finger head, scattered drippy streaks of lacing. Nice fresh aromas of husky grains and half-dried hay with a touch of floral sweetness, perhaps a touch spicy. No 'perhaps' about it come sippin' time, though; the noble hops take over right away. The momentary spicy and bitter sting are a great match for the crackly and crispy malt profile. Very clean finish with just a hint of bready aftertaste. Exceedingly quaffable.

Overall impression: Ryan, feel free to keep the CBC express rolling my way. These guys know their way around a brew kettle.

(Re-reviewed 6-19-15. Pilsener glass. Bottled 15104.)

Had on tap at Market 65. Served in an Imperial/Nonic pint glass. (Pilsener glass).

Appearance: Pours a hazy gold with 2" of white head. Dispersed quickly to 1/4" head that lingered. Little effervescence visible. (Continuous streaming bubbles in 2015).

Aroma: Light, airy, salty and bready. (Clean, sweet, bready pilsener malt in 2015).

Mouthfeel: Soft; not as slick as the last time I had it (bottled). More effervescence on tap than bottled, but low by any measure.

Taste: Clean, slightly tart arrival. Malty with a hint of citrus across mid-palate. Really firm bitterness on the finish. The strength of the finish was really surprising given how light the beer comes across otherwise. Balanced. (Very classic German malt character).

Overall: A really clean and quaffable summer brew. A little lacking in depth to make it a regular, but much better than the last time I had it bottled. I could see this being my go-to beer for neighborhood barbecues. (Willing to make it a regular buy; very nice refreshing maltiness).

12 ounce bottle (2011 batch with new label). Served in a mug, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is grainy (wheat?) and sweet malt, citrusy hops (lemon peel), and a bit of grassy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes mostly like grain/wheat/bready malt and some citrusy hops (lemon peel). Mouthfeel/body is light, it's crisp and easy to drink. I think it's a nice refreshing brew, a good choice for summertime. I can't believe I haven't tried this before, I might have to pick up some of this over the summer. Definitely worth a try.

A: very cloudy, a sexy unfiltered-ness to it. With somewhat thick white foam ontop of a nice grainy tint.

S: sweet grains and corn husk, slightly bready. Hops and citrus hints come forward as it warms.

T:sweetness hits at first, leading into grain flavors, light corn and husk, followed up by a nice sharp bitterness which is a bit grassy and hangs on in the aftertaste.

M: thick and lush.fills the mouth without being heavy.

O: damn tasty. Only picked up a single and really wish i had more. Light in alcohol and refreshing, this is a great summer beer, or for anytime you want a nice flavorful beer that isnt going to wreck your taste buds or sobriety. This is only my second keller/zwickel, and i will definitely seek out more. I think this edges out fat head's example by being slightly more complex. Will buy again for sure and hope i can score some more before it's gone for the year.

Pours a deep golden color with with a large head and lacing. Appears to have some lively carbonation.

Faint smell of hops and wheat.

Nice smooth medium bodied lager with some grapefruit hops and balancing pale malt. Slightly syrupy sweet honey taste with medium carbonation.

Quite smooth and very drinkable with just enough hops to keep the BA crowd happy.

While I'm not really familiar with the beer style, this may be my new go to summer beer. Fantastic combo of smoothness, body, sweetness and bitterness. Home run for Columbus Brewing Company. This could truly be their crossover hit to the macro crowd.

I really need to be finishing up these notes from my summer tasting before Autumn...

This beer is a cloudy yellow-gold in color. The white head that forms is just over a finger tall and leaves good lacing as it drops down the glass. Activity is constant in the glass but avoids the overly spritzed effect of some overcarbonated beers often particular to lighter styles.
The aroma is grassy, and really what it is is a fairly simple balance of hops and malts with a wheat presence. If I can glean something about this beer's nature from the aroma, I'd say I'm in for something pretty dry and a little spicy with some grassy earthiness to it.
The flavor is well-balanced, as expected from the nose, and is both hoppy and tart. Grassy, lightly spicy, slightly leafy, lemon and some other (perhaps orange) zest and citrus notes blend very nicely into a light but flavorful and refreshing beer.
It's light with a bit of spritz to it but avoids the soda-like overdone spritziness, giving a good bit of crispness and also allowing for some smoothness to fill it out.
While I'm fairly new to the style, this is simply a well-constructed beer.

O - quite pleasant for what it is, with more than minimal flavor.

A: very pale yellow gold with durable white head; slightly hazy

Rather minimal aroma; light malt with little else. Given this, the flavor is a pleasant surprise. First, it has flavor. The flavor is rather simple but nicely malty with unmistakable hop spiciness.

M- light bodied, but with a nice bit of crispness.

Summer Teeth
Columbus Brewing Company
Style: Keller Bier / Zwickel Bier
ABV: 5.00 %

LOOK: Pours a clear golden color with a soapy froth reminiscent of frog eggs on a pond. Leaves an excellent display of lace. Appears attractive.

SMELL: Clean bready malts, a touch of wheat, grassy hop, a bit grainy, faint lemon.

TASTE: Fresh tasting, with more pale malt flavor lending notes of rye bread and biscuit, but not without a good dosage of noble, grassy hops that do impart a saaz-like spice note. Cracker like yeast/malt notes. Hop flavor chimes in faint citrus and finishes with a small bitterness.

MOUTHFEEL: Light bodied, crisp, Uber-Refreshing. Really does hit the spot.

OVERALL: A summer beer with plenty of flavor and character. Tasty, well made, actually almost like a high quality import lager. A beer like this is always welcome in the beer fridge.

Bottle received as an extra in a trade with a generous BA thanks!

Appearance: Pours a translucent golden amber like that of the movie Jurassic Park! The crown is billowy, light beige, and about 2 fingers thick. Retention is strong and lace is everywhere.

Smell: floral hops and wet grass hallertau style hops combined with a pleasant citrus note that is not quite as bright as an orange but on the sweet acidic side....can't place it.

Taste: Now I'm getting that note I couldn't identify in the nose...bitter under ripe grapefruit. like licking the white skin on a peeled citrus fruit. Other than that the beer is pretty tasty!

Mouthfeel: Excellent carbonation, fairly crisp, but with a creamy crown! Body is a touch thick but still in the medium range.

Drinkability: Sessionable if it wasn't for the taste.

Summer Teeth brewed by Columbus Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.00% This German Kellerbier/Zwickelbier pours out a slight hazy golden amber color with a small white head. Nice amount of thin lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is Rich with sweetness, with malts and grains. Really faint on the hop bitterness. So far this is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold an Rich with flavors. You first pick up on a smooth an I mean smooth mild sweetness mixed with mild grains and malts. This is a real enjoyable drinking brew. There is nothing overpowering about Summer Teeth, it has a super nice balance to it. The body of this brew is a solid medium. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. This brew would go nice on a hot summer day or with lunch. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Sweet, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm going to give Summer Teeth a soild 4 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Columbus Brewing Company hit the nail on the head with this German style brew.

A- Pours a cloudy golden color with a thin white head that leaves the slightest bit of lacing.

S- A touch of sweet malt and lots of fruity floral aroma. A bit of spice as well.

T- Nice fruit flavor initially with orange and banana being the easiest to pinpoint. Some nice sweet malt grain flavor in the finish for an easy balance. A touch of yeast flavor and wheat are noticeable but the alcohol surely is not.

M- Light bodied with a crisp finish. Decent carbonation but maybe a touch on the high end.

D- Quite quaffable with a nice flavor.

Poured into a pint glass from a 12 oz bottle. Appears a fairly clear golden color, with a little bit of haze. There is a thin white head that leaves a small amount of lacing.

Smells of wheat, and a slight hint of hops. Nothing that really stands out or is too overpowering. The taste is fairly sweet, honey maybe, as well as some floral notes with a decent amount of bitterness.

Great amount of carbonation, light bodied and nice and crisp. This is so easy to drink, goes down smooth and is definitely something I will buy again. Would work great at a cookout and definitely something I would say is sessionable. Another good brew from Columbus Brewing.

L: Pours straw yellow. Minimal head and a ring of lacing. Mostly cloudy.

S: Tangy and fruity, I think from the yeast. The next aroma I'm picking up a is a medium maltiness.

T: Full bodied lager flavor. It has sort of a woody flavor about it. The tangy sweetness shines through. Bready notes beyond that. One of the more agreeable brews I've had.

F: Smooth and creamy. Medium bodied, easy to drink.

O: It's a good brew. There's nothing wrong with it. I know people who like, even prefer it. But it's a lager and there's only so much it can do.

O: Personally, if I'm going for a German lager, I'm looking for authenticity and consistency. That said, I'll pick an import first--Not neccesarily for the flavor, but for the principle behind it. Easy choice when it only costs a dollar more to get actual Weihenstephaner.

Got this as an extra from Seth (mbpbugeye).
Served in my Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

A bright, clear, glowing gold. Small white head quickly becomes a tight collar of bubbles, leaving no lacing.

Smells of spicy hops and dry light malts. A nice lemony Curtis notes tags along as well. The beer is pretty dry, with some lemons, and spicy German hop notes.

This is good. Very easy drinking. Light body with effervescent carbonation.
Quite tasty and enjoyable. A perfect craft beer for a BMC drinker... And a good beer for a Ba looking for a nice summer brew.
