Crisp, golden lager

Beer is meant to be shared and nothing says summer like sharing a crisp, golden lager with friends. This traditional German style lager is brewed with a blend of European malts and hops to create a refreshing, easy-drinking beer.

Thanks to Chris for bringing this to DE for me.

A: Pours an unfiltered golden color with a thick/foamy 1.5 finger white head. Nice retention and thick, sticky lacing left behind. Lots of carbonation bubbles released from the bottom.

S: Light floral and grass notes, some lemon, biscuit malt.

M: Light wheat, lemon and a bit of orange, and a bit of lager yeast. A little bit of peppery spice comes through as it warms.

M: Light to medium bodied with lively carbonation. On the dry side, but still crisp.

O: A nice summer lager, refreshing and easy drinking. Couldn't ask for much more. Its only fault is the dryness.

I don’t think I would call it a zwicklebier.

Summer Teeth from Columbus Brewing. Received from @ovaltine in a NBS BIF #15 ninja strike. Stored at 40 degrees after receiving. Reviewed 03/06/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “03/24/22”. Served, after a quick roll, at 40.6 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 48.2 degrees.
Appearance – 3.75
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), clear.
Body – Pale gold (SRM 4), clear. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Average (Maximum 4.2 cm, aggressive center pour), white, high density, average retention, diminishing to a 0.2 to 0.4 cm crown and a thin, rocky cap.
Lacing – Poor. Four small islands remain on the glass.
Aroma – 3.5 – Weak generic hops. No yeast, no malt.
Flavor – 3.75 – Begins with coriander in the first couple of sips but this subsides. Maybe some weak malt. No yeast. No ethanol (5.3 % ABV as marked on label) taste or aroma. Mild gastric warming occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Thin, watery, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 Kellerbier/zwickelbier are generally served in Germany in stoneware mugs because they’re full of yeast floaties and lumps. This one is remarkedly clear, so it’s probably filtered or otherwise clarified. Too bad – picking your teeth afterward is half the fun! Flavor is lightly spicy while the nose is unremarkable. Thanks Mike!

Beautiful golden straw color that you can easily see through with a sudsy white head that dissipates pretty quickly from two fingers worth to a thin layer at the top of the beer.

The nose has some citrus (lemon) and lots of cereal grains - and honey, which is a nice touch. This drinks really clean, with the lemon and cereal grains up front, and the slight honey sweetness at the back of the palate.

Nicely crisp mouthfeel, there’s a reason I plowed through a can poured into my shaker pint in like 8 minutes - this is a really well executed lager that is a pleasure to drink on a late spring day.

12oz can dated 2022-03-24 served in a little glass. Received from @ovaltine in NBS BIF #14 delayed madness.

Pours a clear light gold, small to non-existent head. Smell is grainy, light yeast, some lemon, more grass.

Taste is way richer than i expected. Honeysuckle floral and grain. Yeast funk hits nicely, grass bitterness is there and well-balanced.

Mouthfeel is super light and clean. Overall, I wish I could get sixers of this. Rich flavor, low alcohol, very easy to drink.

Pours a clear brownish straw color, when held go light some very fine particulate can be seen. Big head settles quite quick and forms a soapy looking cap that lingers then fades.

The nose is a honey like lemon citrus and some sweet grainy white bread.

The taste leans mostly into the white bread, grain and little bit of honey.

Light body easy drinking and very refreshing quality to it. It has just a little little snap of hop on the finish that to me makes this ever more refreshing

Thanks to Ovaltine for this one, as part of a ninja hit during NBS BIF #15. 12oz can (dated 3/24/22) poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a clean, clear dark honey-gold color with over 1-1/2 inches of white head that had decent retention and light lacing.

A light malty sweetness was at the front of the nose, with solid, earthy grains, and gentle floral hops on top.

Not as sweet on the tongue, with the hops having a touch of spice.

The body was light-medium, very smooth, and had a medium-dry finish.

Drinkability was very good, a smooth, easy quaff that's going well with this Mariners game (score runs assholes!).

Overall, a nice, enjoyable, easy quaffing brew. A few pints would go down easily. Worth your time if you see it.

Purchased as a six-pack of cans in a box from Marathon for $10.99. Poured into an old stein.

L - Had to pour this very carefully - the head grew faster than I was pouring it! Four-finger lingering foamy white head atop a clear, slightly cloudy goldenrod.
S - Honey, various wheat and grains, and clove. Little bit of citrus, but not too much.
T - Honey wheat bread and floral notes. Cedar and biscuit. Lemon zest. A bit of spice towards the finish.
F - Medium body, with lots of carbonation. Refreshing, crisp, and clean. Extremely drinkable.
O - A fantastic way to bring summer to a near-close! An incredibly refreshing and flavorful lager at a pretty fair price. Great fishing beer. Highly recommend. Definitely keeping this regularly in the fridge.

This is a beer that’s greater than the sum of its parts, because it’s true to the style and does everything well.

L: Like a golden cloud
S: Like a prototypical lager but with a hint of earthy, grassy sweetness
T: Warm and full but not overly heavy. Just when you think mid flush that it’s going to bear down on you a bit, it lifts crisply like a summer shower giving way to the sun. This is a drinkable beer. Just enough lemon rind flavor keeps this very pleasant alongside a persistent breadiness. Not a lot of grassiness detected but it is there though its overshadowed by the aforementioned flavors throughout.
F: Medium-High carbonation, ideal balance.
O: Damn good. Drink it down, and enjoy life. Remember! If you believe you’ll have a good time, then you most definitely will!

Giving summer a new look, Columbus goes old to bring a crisp and refreshing beer to a new audience. Brewed in the extended cellar stored, unfiltered and fuller bodied style, their Kellerbier brings a taste of tradition to new drinkers.

Pouring on the deeper golden and slight chrome side of straw, Summer Teeth releases a rich and creamy lather while flourishing with a soft hop bouquet, lightly flowery and with a grassy hop spice. As a scent of toasted pastry, bread crust and a hint of honey, much of the same translates to taste in a sweeter grain flavor of light cereal, croissant and honeysuckle.

The lager shows a smooth but quick transition from a more elegant malt focus early on the middle palate and toward a snappy hop spice later in taste. Hints of apple, lemon and apricot pull from the light ester and hop profiles and give purpose to the rounded malt sweetness that lingers slightly on the tongue. Eventually a firm hop bite provides a trailing bitterness of lemongrass, lemon peppery, fine herb and fresh grassiness in an even-keel bitterness.

Medium bodied overall but somewhat full for standard lager, Summer Teeth finishes crisp, refreshing and with a slight off-clean late palate. For the beer lover, this is a welcome departure from the more basic summer lagers but will seem assertive to the low-cal beer crowd.
