Part of the hop odyssey.
Gold medal in Category 90: Imperial Red Ale at the 2014 World Beer Cup.
This bold Imperial Red Ale is brewed with a blend of our favorite English crystal malts, providing a sturdy balance to the firm bitterness and citrusy, floral hop aroma. Brewed with Simcoe, Centennial, and Amarillo hops.

Uncle Rusty brewed by Columbus Brewing Company, with an ABV of 9.30% This Imperial Red Ale pours out of a 12oz glass bottle into a pint beer glass. The color is a nice reddish brown with a nice off white head. Really digging the copper color of this brew. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is Rich, with hop bitterness mixed with roasted grains and malts. You also pick up a nice sweetness in the smell as well. So far Uncle Rusty is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. You first pick up on the hop bitterness, with is to be expected. However it smooths out with a slight sweetness mixed with the roasted grains an malts. The body of this Imperial Red Ale is a solid medium. It is also worth noting that is hard to pick up on the 9.30% ABV in this brew. This brew goes down nice an smooth. Dinner or a cool nice is the preferred time to drink this kinda of brew. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. The mouth feel is Bold, Hoppy, Rich, Clean, Roasted, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Uncle Rusty a 4.50 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again givin the opportunity too. Columbus Brewing Company, did a super nice job with this Imperial Red Ale.

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from my local Giant Eagle store. It poured a slightly hazy amber with ecru head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had fresh hop presence. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with booz presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

This is a very nice red ale. Purchased during a recent trip to Cincinnati.
Poured into a tulip glass. Deep golden amber color with excellent head and lacing. Toffee and caramel smell and taste. Apple pie and biscuits. A bit sweet but a dry finish. Really nice beer!

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 1/7/2019. Pours lightly hazy deep orange/copper/amber/light reddish color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick cream/soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Insane appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light toffee/nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge red grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light toffee/nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, honey, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light toffee/nuttiness, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 9.3% after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic imperial red. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV, with the moderately bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Amazing Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo profile. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hop complexity; with a great balancing dark/bready English malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing west coast feeling style example all around.

Nice red ale but not the great taste I thought it might be. Great color and good aroma. Nothing bad about this beer just not spectacular.

12 oz bottle poured into willybecher glass bottles on 1/8.
A: pours a nice deep ruby amber color with great clarity. Head is a khaki copper color that looks creamy and settles slowly.
S: smells like marmalade and deep malts with resiny hops. Has a little honey and tangerine as well.
T: lots of sharp hop bitterness rounded out by sweet citrus fruits and a heavy malt backbone. Finishes with lots of lingering bitterness, resiny quality and malts.
M: medium bodied tangy carbonation this beer drinks big and really coats the tongue.
O: I’m not much of an amber guy, but this is quite tasty drinks a little like Bigfoot, but with more sweet fruits.
