Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a sturdy dark brown close to black color with a finger's worth of white to off white foamy head that slid off immediately to barely leave any lace.
The aroma had a nice blend of sweet coffee (espresso-like) to sweet oats, then a sly roasted dark malty underneath with some milk and dark chocolate bits.
The flavor was moderately sweet through the prior mentioned aromas nicely. Roastiness was there but faint. Aftertaste was semi-sweet with a nice bitterness rolling around but smooth.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, perhaps a touch under with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt low, but that's okay since this was on nitro when I had it and that's expected. It's very smooth all around and somewhat creamy.
Overall, awesome oatmeal stout that I would love to have again if I ever get the chance to get out to Ohio.

01/21/11- Had this one on-tap at the CBC brewpub.
A: Black with a nice big slow caramel head that overflowed on the glass.
S: Strong espresso and dark chocolate, oatmeal cream, strawberry and banana fruits, and a slight bacon.
T: Nice thick roasted chocolate espresso like a creamy cafe mocha. Great.
M: Thick and creamy.
D: Great.

On tap in a pint glass at the brewpub on 1/7/11

Very dark in the glass. The lighting doesn't make for a good read on the color but it's easily a dark brown. Poured one finger of milk chocolate colored foam which drops to a thinner layer after a few minutes leaving one good patch of crackly, drippy lace.

The aroma is tilted a bit too far toward hoppiness but it doesn't fully over run the rest of the beer. Piney with pepperings of the standard-fare CBC citric notes. There's a reasonable amount of roastiness in hints of coffee beans & bitter cocoa. Overtones of oats impart a smooth earthiness.

Thankfully the hops are better kept in check for the flavor profile. They are expressed primarily as pine, with a good bit of kick. That the citrus is toned down is a good thing. The malt bill keeps it pretty simple; notions of roasted coffee & bakers chocolate. Oatmeal proves to be an even-keeled linchpin, but is a subtle contributor. Tastes pretty good; maybe too hoppy for the style. At this point, though, I am unfazed.

Full bodied; middle-of-the-road viscosity in the realm of stouts (I've had imperials with such a feel) but it suits this beer fine. Ample carbonation refrains from being sharp or prickly; instead it's vaporous & foamy, albeit it with a low threshold.

CBC has a good thin going with this oatmeal stout. It has held up well & smoothed out over the duration of the pint. It is awesome that they're brewing new beers outside of the Hop Odyssey. I'm especially glad they decided to brew a stout. Hopefully they continue down this path.

A- Pours a completely black color with a thick off white foam that quickly fades.

S- Strong nose of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. A bit of smoke.

T- Very full roasted flavor with lots of dark chocolate and cocoa coming through. Some coffee and smoke in the finish. Really nice flavor.

M- Medium/full bodied with a creamy feel. Nice carbonation.

D- Great flavor and a very decent brew.

Serving type CO2 tap Cap City Fine Dining and Bar

Appearance 2.5 - A beautiful black expected from oatmeal stouts appears thin, head a nice chocolate milk color but thin and dissipates much too quickly. Think this beer needs nitrogen.

Smell 2.5 - Weak nothing pronounced especially for a stout, maybe a touch of chocolate and coffee, but that maybe the aftertaste (oops tasted first)

Taste 3.0 - Upfront not much, kind of weak for a stout. Beautiful chocolate and coffee aftertaste, very mild by stout standards.

Mouthfeel 2.5 - Thin, many of my fav IPA's are thicker, barely carbonated. Again, nitrogen would make this creamy and a much more desirable drink.

Drinkability 4.0 - This "stout" is so weak (by stout standards) it would be as easy to chug as water.

A- Pours black color with a nice foamy tan head. Head turns into a layer of bubbles and leaves some nice layered lacing.

S- Smells of roasted malts and the oats really shine here. A tiny bit of caramel and chocolate too.

T- Taste really follows the nose well. A tiny bit of bitterness in the finish. A touch of sweetness in here too.

M- Fuller side of medium in body and carbonation was pretty light. Has a very smooth feel to it.

D- Pretty solid and easy to drink.

Another growler shared by Ryan011235

The body looks near perfect, just the right amount of viscosity clinging to the glass. The carbonation didnt weather the night too well, but in this case lower carbonation is welcome as it was too high the first night. There is still a tight tan cap. A nice rich coffee roast and chocolate aroma. Coffee plays the dominate role. There is a faint husky/vegetal hop presence. Kinda strange. Acidic coffee is pretty dominant. Rich and dry dark chocolate and roast add most of the bitterness with a dry, powdery feel. The finish yeilds a citric and grassy hop kick. Carbonation is still too high. The second night from the growler helps but its just barely enough. The feel is full bodied and quite dry and powdery.
