On cask at the Columbus Microbrew Fest 2011. This is a cask of Columbus IPA with jalapenos and California orange peels added.

Appearance
Its cloudy, like the base beer is, but the cloudiness is a little thicker here. The beer still has that bright, deep orange. The head is strong and white with plenty of gusto to last through most of the glass. However, the foam is much looser when CIPA is served in a cask.

Aroma
Right away the jalapeno is noticeable. In fact, the fresh green pepper smell is the strongest element here. I like peppers a lot, but this one startled even me at first. This beer wasn't served too cold, but I found that the orange peel and citrusy hops took a few minutes to open up. The base beer and all its citrusy goodness is there below the peppers. Mostly orange, with a rind-like zestiness to it, and a little bit of grapefruit.

Taste
The taste turned out very well, much better than the aroma did. The peppers are there, but they aren't attempting to steamroll the hops. The fresh, green, peppery flavors of the chilies is quite integrated. The citrus of the base beer and orange peels acts to freshen up the palate. Orange rind and grapefruit are big, but this beer tastes green and vegetal.

Mouthfeel
There isn't any pepper heat to speak of, which I found a little disappointing but it isn't a big loss. The beer is gently carbonated from being served on cask and rather dry with a piney green finish.

Overall
I wish they brought out the mango and habanero version, which I think sounds divine, but I ended up liking this cask pretty well. Obviously its no contender against CIPA's reign, but it was never meant to be. Its just a fun little experiment to do with a little extra beer.
