Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The aptly named Mountain is a Russian Imperial Stout. Dark and forboding, notes of burnt caramel, oak, charcoal, and cream, mingle well with a deep, intense maltiness. A huge stout, yet it remains balanced and one sip begs another chance to explore the complexities.

On tap. Festival sample. Pours black. Aroma leans more toward the drier side of the big Stout spectrum. I get burnt malt, strong coffee and pungent roast. Flavor is of bitter, dark chocolate, black coffee, burnt malt and some sweeter elements like vanilla and creamy chocolate. Body isn't exactly as thick as I was anticipating. Still, it's rather large. A powerful Stout that is definitely a hearty example of the Russian Imperial Stout. Bitter and boozy. I went back for more.

Where I am not a big Barrel stout guy, this beer aged in whiskey and rum barrels was very nice. Beer is a dark brown with a small one finger head on the pour that dissipates quickly. The smell is fairly neutral, a but of a bourbon smell. The taste is a smooth stout with slight chocolate, heavy malt notes. A very good beer.

This beer was a black color. There was a small tan head with a smattering of lace.
Nice roasted malt aroma, charred wood, and whiskey.
Taste of whiskey, strong coffee, and a little chocolate.
Not as heavy as I expected. Definitely boozy.
A perfect beer for a cold winter day.

Pours a nice dark black. Little bit of lacing. Taste is complex and has a smoothness that is VERY nice. A little aftertaste I can't identify but not close to a deal breaker. Friend recommended and he's still a friend after drinking this very very nice RIS.

Black in body with khaki head that fades. Aroma of milk chocolate cream, light coffee, earth, hazelnut, cinnamon. Tastes of milk chocolate, cinnamon, coffee, some dirt. Heavy bodied with medium carbonation.
