Pours a rich near-black color with two fingers of dark khaki head. Decent retention before leaving thick, sloppy lacing.

Umami, molasses, vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and alcohol mix in the full and complex aroma.

Watered down coffee and chocolate up front in the taste; definite vanilla; a sweet and spicy cinnamon-like element mid-palate; and hints of the umami and fruit in the finish.

Full bodied and slick feeling with slow-building prickliness.

Lots of depth to this, while still relatively easy-drinking, especially for the style. There is a definite spicy cinnamon character to this that’s almost peppery in a way; it lingers nicely in the aftertaste. Would love to try an intentionally “Mexican” version with some peppers and cinnamon added.

4/16 hand-written on the bottle.

There was a small light brown head that didn't linger long or leave any lacing. Good nose. Chocolate, some coffee, roasted malts, vanilla, maybe some plum. The taste is very good. A nice balance with both a little bit of sweetness and bitterness. Chocolate, faint vanilla, some coffee and roasted malts. Some dark fruits. A really nice imperial stout!

Smell doesn't do it justice. Looks dark and pours a somewhat thick viscosity, light head and lacing, but this is roasty and tasty AF. Love stoneface and this beer is a great representation of what they can do. LOVE LOVE LOVE their BA versions, but the regular is also a solid beer.

Aroma of alcohol, chocolate, and vanilla.
Taste followed the nose. Bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla. A hint of coffee.

Split a bottle last night with "Boccu" and our friend Marcus which poured jet black color with a small 1 finger tab colored head that faded in average time and left good spotty lacing.

Smells of cocoa powder, burnt coffee grinds, charred grains, light smoke, vanilla, chocolate, faint herbal or earthy notes and chocolate syrup or molasses. Disappointed there were no evident barrel notes in the nose, but this batch was just bottled so I'll age my bottle longer and hope for the best.

Tastes very much like it smells but with more chocolate and roasted malts, hints of soy sauce, a caramel sweetness and as Marcus pointed out some burnt marshmallow. Nice tasting brew but I keep hoping that some of the woody barrel notes will show up for additional flavors. Don't know what kind of barrels were used, but this stout is all roasty and smoky malts.

The mouthfeel is thin and more like a milk stout right now but dangerously easy to drink at 9.5% ABV. The carbonation was mild, the body average and the mild bitterness calmed the roasty sweetness. Looking forward to an aged bottle since this was very good at this stage. I'm sure with some age and those extra flavors the overall rating will go up.

Dark pour, lots of interesting tastes that all came together in a bottle and I am SO glad I was able to get 1/2 dozen of these amazingly fine beers. Stoneface rules!!!!!

500 mL bottle. Black with a little transparency. Smells of vanilla and strong roasted malt. Tastes of a ton of vanilla. Roasted coffee. Sweet and fudgy chocolate. Boozy and sharp from the vanilla. Just a bit of cola in the finish. Kinda heavy, but not too sweet. Really intense vanilla, almost too much.

Pours black with tan head. Not overly fluffy head. Really smells like a RIS. Not much in the sense of vanilla or coffee. Kind of underwhelming to be honest. Getting some dried fruit and salted nuts. Not bad, but not as advertised.

Many thanks to SawDog505 for this bottle!

A - Dark brown and almost black in color, micro-thin cream colored lacing.

S - Chocolate roast and cream.

T - Chocolate roast, cream, lingering light roasted chocolate bitterness.

M - Big, full bodied, very creamy and velvety.

O - This is a great Russian Imperial Stout, well balanced, the only negative is the nose - it needs more. Other than that? I'd definitely go for more of these!

Poured into a 16 oz Woodstock Inn Brewery snifter bottled 2/10/16. Pours near black with a 2 plus finger tan head that settles after 6 minutes into a quarter inch of bubbles and coats the sides of the glass with webs of lace.

Smell is roasty coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla beans, some tobacco and leather, toffee, and some warming alcohol.

Taste wow. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla beans dominate with maybe a cameo appearance at best from the others.

Mouthfeel is almost large, moderate carbonation which is perfect, a little dry as expected, and amazing drinkability for 9.5% ABV.

Overall this is one of the best stouts I have ever had, makes me proud to be from New Hampshire!

F - smooth, slightly thin but nice creamy finish
O - a very nicely done beer, wish this was something I could go to more often.

Dark brown, almost black.
Tons of coffee and chocolate on the nose, with a bit of marshmallow and a hint of nuttiness and vanilla
Lots going on for taste but very even and smooth. Chocolate and malts abound.
Quite easily drinkable even with the high abv. Even after it warms up.

Solid RIS but little sets it apart from others available. The aroma is the best part. Significant charcoal/char character. A little smores-y. Smells richer than it tastes. Flavor is what you look for in an RIS but even so, is a little tame after the aroma. I get too much heat for a beer under 10%. A touch syrupy and thin. I felt done with it halfway through.
Overall not bad at all, but I’d much rather have a Stone RIS or even Old Rasputin.

ACBF pour. Pours close to black. Aroma is immediately very enticing. Sweet, syrupy chocolate and espresso boldness. A bunch of vanilla. Flavor is even better. I was initially greeted by the bitter roast and chewy chocolate but it finishes with one of the most impressive combos of vanilla and marshmallow I have come across. Very unique, very tasty, very memorable. Full bodied but not like many of those 14% behemoths; and I have no problem with this fact. A great beer.

A- Dark brown body, opaque and reasonably dark, but not quite black. One finger offwhite head, fair retention, not much lacing.

S- Raw vanilla bean aromas mixed in with a dark fruity coffee flavour and milk chocolate. Reasonably sweet in aroma and the vanilla beans dominate here. Not a lot else from the base beer though, it would seem. Delicious aroma and reminds me a lot of Twilight of the Idols from Hill Farmstead, but without the mild cinnamon.

F- Clean vanilla flavours, not artificial at all, with a mild bitter black coffee flavour. Some dark fruit which seems to be more from the coffee than the base malt. A bit of milk chocolate, earthiness.

M- Medium bodied, silky smooth with a nice substantial mouthfeel. Lower in carbonation. Very drinkable.

O- Reminds me a lot of Hill Farmstead Twilight of the Idols, except it's more substantial as befitting a RIS vs an winter porter.

I really don't need to say much for this beer does all the talking. I think there spring 2015 batch may be the best. Loads of flavor with the coffee and vanilla coming through. Very smooth perhaps just a little on the thin side for what this wonderful beer should be. Looking forward to a BA version at some point.

Poured from a bottle purchased today at the release.

Great looking RIS. Black, nice fluffy 2 or 3 finger head. Big bubbles and Some nice lacing with the frothy head on top. Smells really good, too. Huge chocolate, vanilla, and roastiness. Hint of coffee in the smell but vanilla is doing most of the work. Interesting, because the sample I had today at the brewery tasted coffee forward.

Yup, same taste as the sample, except I can get a better feel for it. The coffee is very upfront but with a great roasty mix in there, slight vanilla creeps up in the back. Dry finish at the end.

The mouthfeel is a little thin, but has some nice carbonation that makes it seem slightly creamy. Some alcohol heat goes well with the big stout flavor. Still, it's pretty smooth for 9.5% you can taste the alcohol but it doesn't burn.

Nice stout going on here. Lots of roasty flavors and pretty easy drinking.
