Bottle acquired at Abbott's Alehouse off-license in Cork, Ireland, and served in a Grolsch pint glass. I sat on the 3rd floor of Cork's Linden house hostel after hours with me pint by me side just reviewing this beer. I ended up rather disappointed. Reviewed from notes.

A: Four finger head of pretty thin construction, very little cream, and average retention. Clear copper colour.

Sm: Amber hops, bittering hops, and caramel. Vary pale faux-ester attempt that fails. Moderate strength scent.

T: Poor almost malt liquory build of the notes from the nose. Terrible rotten hop climax, poorly and loosely balanced, if not thrown together haphazardly. The pale hops rip apart the balance of the climax, destroying the beer. What a lazy brew. A pathetic effort.

Mf: Smooth and wet, but with adequate coarseness towards the climax. The mouthfeel is far better than the flavour.

Dr: Cheap in Cork, but also shite. Ignore and avoid, lads. This is one to cook with at best.

Pours light chestnut with a steady creamy eggshell head. Burnt caramel and roasted hazelnut nose. Toasted grain and eggy flan malts, a burst of stewed apricot and maybe some chocolate malts, then mild leafy hops with some tannins. Spiced plum comeback and a drying linger. The light side of medium, some chewy, clingy.

Complex, but I don't know that it ends up as a cohesive whole. Lands somewhere between an Irish Red and a fruity Best Bitter. An interesting entry from a hit and miss brewer.

500ml bottle, consumed Jun 2011, BBE Mar 2012.

A - Pale orange body with a thin, tightly-bubbled head and a bit of cling. Much paler than other red ales tend to be.

S - Sweet caramel notes and a little malt.

T - Follows the aroma, malt and caramel notes with a little hop bitterness for balance.

M - Medium body, medium carbonation, doesn't linger too long.

O - Quite a pleasant if slightly generic beer, either on its own or as a session.
