A very English style IPA...don't know where the double comes from. It's well balanced with a malty backbone, not bad...wouldn't seek out or recommend

Agree with everything JayQue wrote...my two-cents, had on draft at WOB-Fayetteville. Initally surprised by the dark color...reminesent of a strong ale, smell was all IPA though. Taste was more malty, hence the "English" JayQue referred to. Overall, a solid ale, but slightly mis-labled, I would have gone with strong ale ala Arrogent Bastard...jack up the %abv and this might be a solid substitute for Double Bastard since it's evidently been retired :(

I didn't bother to read the label on this one before I started drinking it, but it looks like the brewer's intent was to create an Imperial English India Pale Ale! This beer poured a golden-amber color from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. Medium size slightly antique white head with good retention. Some bands of lacing on the glass. The aroma was quite a surprise. I was waiting for a blast of piney or citrus hops but, instead, what I noticed was strong caramel and biscuity malt aroma and a little floral hops. The nose was more English IPA or Barleywine than an AIPA. Taste was more of the same. Big malt profile, both caramel and biscuity malt with some more delicate floral hops in the background. Mouthfeel is rich and slightly sweet, a touch of alcohol and a little hops bitterness in the background. I liked this beer, something different for an IPA. Should be English vice American.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a murky amber color with a small off-white colored head. The aroma is plenty of malt with some caramel notes. The taste is caramel malt and a hint of tobacco.

Pours a hazy amber color with smaller cream colored head some sparse lace.
Aroma is pretty malt forward lots of caramel, some pear, vegetable notes and floral hints. Not really a double IPA nose more like an weaker old ale.
Taste is lots of malts caramel with hints of peat perhaps. Hops do show up in the finish veggy notes, bitter grapefruit rind moving to herbal like pepper notes, maybe tobacco hints. Again not very I2PA more like a old ale. That being said the flavor is not bad just not what one would expect.
Mouthfeel is a big medium approaching full all the malts seem to make it chewy, carbonation on the lighter side.
Overall nose too subdued for any style with 8.5% might less an I2PA but the flavor is good just don't expect an IPA like hop bomb.

Look: golden amber, no head.
Smell: lots of caramel malt, little hop presence.
Taste: the hops finally appear, and they're excellent - citrus and pine, and the caramel malt is a nice balance.
Feel: a little slick, but not too much. Well carbed.
Overall: first beer from these guys, I like this, apparently a lot more than most other folks. The caramels malt is really nice.

Not a good double ipa. Color is a little off, just like the beer overall. Smell is a little bit floral/fruity. Taste is where this beer fails. Doesn't have a good hoppiness taste. It has the bitter taste, but not smooth at all. More like cheap vodka.

12 oz into snifter
L - pours slightly syrupy dark amber with 1 inch head
S - Sweet malts, honey, a slight floral hop presence. If this was a barleywine then perhaps, but not an IPA nose at all
T - very sweet malts with honey and a touch of bitterness to finish. Not a lot of hops going on at all
F - syrupy and thick.
Overall, this just isn't an ipa. Perhaps an okay strong ale or barleywine, but as an IPA this is a sweet mess

Nice amber color, good head retention, just a bit off in terms of too much alcohol taste. Very nice carbonation with pleasant mouthfeel. Smell could use a little more pininess for a double IPA. Purchased from Whole Foods in half-growler. Good to see more local breweries here in Columbia!
