Czann's Brewing Company "IPA"
on tap at Hop + Craft, Nashville, TN

With apologies to Ken, I'd written a much longer review that went into depth about it but I accidentally lost it and I just can't bring myself to spend another hour or so rebuilding it. Basically I think it's a very good and well-crafted beer, but that it needs a reformulated hop bill to bring out a more prominent hop component as I basically found it to be almost 'generic Pacific northwest hop' in character. Everything else was good, it's just lacking that certain intangible that brings a beer to life, and I think that might be in the hops.

This is NOT a bad beer (as may be indicated by my rating). It's a straight down the line drinkable IPA, as good or bad as any other you will find according to your palette.

Tasted On: 10-17-2014
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 64 oz. growler
Glassware: Cervoise
Purchased: Single from Craft Brewed, Nashville

A: Clear, golden color with a white head that has good lacing and retention.

S: Aromas are light, with an overall vegetable like smell.

T: Hoppy bitterness is in the taste, with vegetable flavors just as noted in the nose.

M: Body is thin, with a finish that is dry and hoppy, with some unpleasant harshness.

O: I'd call this an OK IPA, but the vegetable aspects were a definite detraction.

This was my least favorite beers from here, though it was very fresh. It seems lost in creation of traditional German beers, while working in the new fangled IPAs.

Poured on draft at Hops and Crafts in Nashville, TN.

Pours a hazy, light amber color with a thin white foamy head that dissipates at a medium pace. No shampoo bottle. There's a good amount of lacing around the glass as I sip and a ring of foam around the edges of the glass that remains constant throughout my imbibing experience.

Smells of corn almost...slightly earthy, but really no pine, citrus, or anything hoppy on the nose. Not typical of an IPA, but interesting to say the least.

Tastes bitter instantly and finishes dry and crisp after coating the tongue and mouth. Definitely has a high hop content, however the malt balance isn't there.

Drinks rough. Real rough if you're not used to bitter beer.

Overall not my favorite but very unique. Would recommend to folks looking to find that different hoppy beer.

Cheers!
