Burnside is our traditional brown ale. It is layered with roasted notes of coffee, burnt sugar, and chocolate, but balanced by a touch of malty sweetness and Maine-grown oats for a smooth finish. Maine farms provide part of the grist used in this product. Grist: Pale, Pilsner, Oats, Brown, Crystal.

Bomber purchased about three weeks ago direct from the brewery.
Pours dark brown with a nice head and a bit of a haze. Smells rather like American hops for an English brown, but the hop aroma is backed up nicely by a light nutiness.
Flavor is American hop first and foremost--high acid citrus nodes dominate. The middle is a straight English brown, with sweet nutty malt, and the finish is a pretty good balance between the two along with some light nodes of peat and smoke.
Tastes like a bit of a cross between an English brown and an American black APA. Weird, but tasty.

A: The beer is brown when viewed from afar but when held up to a bright light it is clear red in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sweet malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of nutty malts and subtle hints of associated sweetness. These become a bit stronger as the beer begins to warm up.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The aromas and flavors of malts seem to be a bit muted compared to other beers in this style but it is an easy one to drink.

16oz. Can served in a tulip nonic. Pours a lovely translucent mahogany hue with a loose, 1/8th inch, off-white head. Nose has a light, nutty quality with a hint of caramel malt. Taste follows nose, albeit somewhat subdued. Mouthfeel is light on body with a pleasant, even carbonation. Overall, fairly drinkable but lacking some maltiness.

Can dated 3/22/21 (a year old!) into pint glass. Pours a clear mahogany-amber color with a modest cream-colored head. Taste is nutty, with notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel, and spices. Mouthfeel is clean and refreshing. Finish is slightly sweet. Overall, quite good. Wish I had a fresher can.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a dark chestnut color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of dark breads, some nuttiness. Taste is the same as the aroma, cocoa is also present, as well as a touch of hops. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

It pours a crystal clear red-brown with a tan bubbly head that lasts a couple minutes and pretty much vanishes. There is a ring of little bubbles and some splotches left on the top, but eventually it looks like a flat cola.
The smell is malt-driven as it should be, with a little of this and that thrown in. Coffee, toffee, maybe some brown sugar, chocolate, nutty like almonds. Nice earthy note. Not a strong aroma and it pretty much hits all at once versus being layered.
The taste follows along pretty well, opening with toasty and biscuit-like malts, slightly sweet nuttiness. Then everyone is in the pool. Light Coffee and chocolate come along, then a caramel or toffee flavor plays nicely with some sweetness but not much. There is a definite hop presence in the earthy and very slightly spicy sense. It does finish sweet with the toffee lingering but I do get a nice spice sensation that keeps things in check.
The body...seems maybe a bit light for the style but that's a nitpick. Nice level of carbonation, a little bitter and the welcome spice bite that counters the lingering sweetness. Good, solid beer overall.

Can courtesy of SierraNevallagash.
Roughly 1 month old.
L: dark root beer brown with tan mocha head.
S: chocolate, biscuit. Maybe coffee or just roasted malt.
T: chocolate, vanilla, roasty, bread, maple/brown sugar.
F: fairly thin, high carbonation, dry, appropriate to style.
Overall: solid brown ale. Haven’t had one in a long time. Similar to a “session stout” I suppose. Definitely a niche beer that’s not seeing a lot of popularity recently.
