Very Good
BurnsideBurnside
Notes: Burnside is our traditional brown ale. It is layered with roasted notes of coffee, burnt sugar, and chocolate, but balanced by a touch of malty sweetness and Maine-grown oats for a smooth finish.

Light caramel-tinted brown with a finger of tan head. Spotty sheeted lacing.

Big sugared coffee, some chocolate and roasted malts in the nose.

Sweet chocolate, coffee, nuts and roasted malts in the taste as well, while still managing to be pretty dry. Moderate bitterness.

Medium bodied with strong carbonation.

Easy drinking, pretty sweet version. Would go good with Mexican food.

The Foundry, Northampton, MA.

A- Served from tap to tumbler with a deep brown body and a one-finger white cap. The head has good retention and a frothy, foamy texture dropping a few rings of lace at the top with spottiness below.

S- Toasted grains, nuttiness and medium caramelized sugars. A hint of dark fruits and bread from the yeast which definitely feels English.

T- Smooth and toasty malts bring notes of toffee, caramel, slight roast, nuttiness and a touch of sweetness. Raisin, medium candi sugars, earthy and citrus hops.

MF- Medium bodied, perhaps a bit toward the light side with a foamy texture that is ever so slightly creamy. Carbonation on the medium-high side and it ends bittersweet.

Solid all around English Brown brewed on American soil. Has the classic fruit esters and nutty malts complimented by medium sweetness and a smooth body.

Can. Poured a clear brown. Tiny head. Aroma is very mild. This style isn't easy to describe. Burnside doesn't necessarily depict chocolate or coffee or the like but I feel like the makings are apparent. It's lighter and softer than that. The beer is enjoyable to drink. It depicts subtle flavors of caramel, tiny roast and tiny chocolate. Light nut. Bread crust. Light bodied. It's hard to describe but I love this style and want more offerings like this. Brown Ales are awesome. Especially chuggable ones like this.
