Notes: We aged Forge, our Imperial Stout, in single malt Scotch casks hailing from a distillery on the island of Islay. The roasted and chocolate malt flavors of Forge meld with whispers of peat, ocean mist, and oak from the barrels, creating a beer to sip and savor to the last drop.

500ml undated bottle.

Pours nearly opaque black with a short-lived head of tan. Boozy scotch in the nose with chocolate-drizzled toffee, espresso, vanilla, and char. On the fuller side of medium bodied with a creamy, tacky mouthfeel. Sweet malt with scotch, vanilla, and chocolate on the palate. Finishes with plenty of warming booze, vanilla, and chocolate.

The body and stout character are a bit meek in the shadow of the scotch.

Very thick pour, the nose was chocolate with a rum note. The taste is very strong on the barrel, thick and sweet. The finish was the best part, very long and slightly carbonated.

Poured with a full head that slowly dissipated. Midnight black and opaque. Mild nose with highly roasted malt. Rich malt taste with nice barrel-aging that was not overpowering. Extremely well-balanced and highly drinkable.

Bomber cellar temp a few months old
Pitch black champagne like fizzy pour with fizzy 2 fingers of mocha colored head
Fantastic lacing
Aroma of dark chocolate and whiskey, not sweet at all
Can taste the oak barrel, fizzy in the mouthfeel, but also a heavy viscous feel.
Root beer coloring at edge of glass.
Delicious rich malt.
Can feel a slight burn of alcohol.
What a wonderful sipper on a cold day.

From a 500ml bottle, bottled 12/19/17. Served in a hand-blown tulip, because fancy.

Pours a deep, dark chestnut-black with busy bubbles and two-plus fingers of coffee-coloured, lumpy, poufy fluff. Retention is excellent, leaving a thick, bubbly cap and a weak sheet of lacing.

Robust nose of butterscotch, lumberyard, and baking brownies.

Taste is in line with the nose with the scotch barrel very much prominent. Mild butterscotchy sweetness, burnt brownie ends and sawn boards, with some roasty chicory-like bitterness apparent at the finish.

Feel is smooth, soft and medium bodied with good carbonation. Very little of the alleged 10.7% abv is apparent beyond a slight, comfortable boozy warmth in the gullet.

Overall, a very nice barrel-aged stout, not quite dry, not quite sweet, boozy but not overpoweringly so. My possibly excessively high rating reflects not just the beer's technical merit but the fact that this is exactly and precisely the style of barrel-aged stout I like best and that I drank it out of a very fancy glass.
