Four Quarters Brewing IPA - Imperial / Double
First sip: Candy, tropical fruity hops! The Simcoe can be very tropical and juicy, El Dorado with a sweet citrus and candy edge. These are certainly a fine combo. Smooth and silky malt with gentle golden and amber waves of grain style for the balance. The nose is all cotton candy and sweet red fruits. Zippy citrus is bold too. Smooth, almost too relaxed in the mouthfeel.

16 oz can.
Pours a hazy golden orange color with a massive sudsy off-white head. Incredibly stubborn head retention here. Leaves a crown of lacing along the top of the glass. Just a great looking NEIPA.
Nose is big citrus up front: lots of grapefruit, orange, and lemon cake. There's a good bit of melon, pineapple, pear, and stone fruit with some subtle dank and earthiness.
The flavor follows the nose, bringing notes of sweet lemon cake, orange flesh and grapefruit, as well as pineapple, stone fruit, pear, and mango. Finishes lightly dank and herbal.
The feel is medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Thick and creamy. A touch on the oily side. The alcohol is definitely well-hidden.
Overall, a great double NEIPA that wonderfully showcases the El Dorado and Simcoe hops. Tons of fruity hop flavors with just enough earthy, weedy, dank hop cone bitterness to balance everything out.

On tap at Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier, VT.
This one pours a fairly hazy golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of sticky lacing.
This smells like grapefruit rind, melon, guava, marijuana, and lemongrass.
This is one of the better Four Quarters IPAs that I've had - there's an intriguing bitterness here - marijuana like, a little bit, but there's also a sort of lemongrass, white pepper, and something else I can't place making up the bitterness. There's lots of citrusy and tropical hoppy character as well.
This is medium bodied, reasonably creamy and smooth, with a nice drinkability.
I feel like I sometimes kind of forget about Four Quarters with all of the great Vermont breweries. They always quietly make some tasty beers. Not everything is a home run, or even a base hit, but a lot of them are.

16 oz. can.
Canned?
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch white head over a very hazy light golden body with some sticky lacing. Nice nose of tropical fruit (pineapple) and sweet citrus (orange, tangerine.) Taste mirrors nose somewhat but with a bitterness that the aromas do not portend. Finishes dry, a bit harsh, and a tad young, green, and yeasty. Nice feel and overall, a fairly solid DIPA from Winooski, VT. Cheers!!!
