Poured into a snifter. Opaque dark brown with a thin tan head. Big vanilla and rum aroma, mixed with booze and some chocolate. The taste was dominated by the rum and compared with the base beer, the other notes were somewhat muted. A great beer but I prefer the regular better.

Black pour with minimal tan head.
Very busy nose on this one, roasty malt, clove, ginger when served. As it warmed maple, cinnamon, and toffee notes prevailed. Rum present throughout.
Taste follows roasted malts, spices, chocolate. As it warmed the molasses and maple came through as well reminding of a spiced bread.
Full bodied stout here, a swirl shows this ones has some legs. I like legs.
Overall a tasty one that had a lot going on with the adjuncts but it all worked out.

Appearance - Served in a snifter, the beer poured black with a tan head.

Smell - The nose was very booze forward with little about the nose suggesting a stout.

Taste - The feel was smooth, but the burn from alcohol was overwheliming. Chocolate and spice was pretty well masked. The burn continues in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Even with the burn, this was remarkably smooth.

Overall - I am not sure I would seek this one. Transient always impresses me, but I don’t think rum aging even a great beer does anything for it.

Looks and pours beautifully. Spices galore. Lots of cinnamon and clove up front. Getting the orange zest mid palate. Am I picking up some cardamom? Hint of maple syrup and earthy molasses. Medium bodied. Semi dry finish. Flavor punch up front that mellows out with lingering spices. Bit boozy in a good way. Real good.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 11/25/17.

Pours dark, opaque, with a half inch head of darker foam and some oily lacing. Aromas of malt, cloves, ginger, molasses, smoke, cinnamon, cocoa, some vanilla, a little black pepper when warm. The taste is malt, ginger, cinnamon, chocolate, molasses, some vanilla and caramel, lighter cloves, a hint of rum as it warms. Kind of a light sweetness- from the maple? Very smooth, a solid medium to full body, well carbonated.

This was very enjoyable. Most of the add- ins are clear and expressive, although the maple and orange zest are pretty much no- shows. The ginger and cloves are great in this. Well worth a purchase, if it comes around again.

This beer is interesting... I wish they would have just put Buckley in rum barrels and left it alone. The clove and ginger and other crap for adjuncts was a bit over the top. Just stick to the coffee, maple, vanilla combo!

Dark beer with flavors of piney spruce, nutmeg, chocolate, and rum. A nice slow sipper for Christmas.
