Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2018, Blue Session. Black color. Aroma has chocolate, cocoa shake and dark chocolate malts. Taste is sweet with some dark fruit notes and a light roasty and dark chocolate bitterness.

I received a bottle of this Stout from @fbarber in the NBS BIF #14. Poured into a stout glass. It pours nearly black with a half finger of fizzy, medium-mocha colored cap and modest lacing. The smell offers roasted malt, freshly-brewed coffee, cocoa, nutty char, maple sugar,, and subtle but noticeable bourbon. The taste opens with maple syrup but includes a dose of chocolate and coffee over a strong malt base. The flavors are mellow and blend very nicely. There is virtually no bitterness. The mouth feel is thick and creamy with lite/moderate carbonation, and it hides the 13.5% ABV very well. Overall, Wake N Cake is a very fine American Imperial Stout. The maple syrup is delicate but distinctive. I like the fact that it's not overly sweet. An excellent offering from Transient.

Pours onyx black with a dark tan head that sizzles in the glass. The nose is led by a rich chocolate fudge aroma, and followed by maple and bourbon notes. Wow.
The chocolate fudge flavor is very forward and complemented perfectly by the maple and bourbon flavors. If this had a bit more heft on the mouthfeel, it would be amazeballs. Still, it is the picture in the dictionary when you look up “decadent.” Wake-n-Cake indeed.

500ML bottle hoarded to myself watching my suddenly hapless Twins look like my 35 plus baseball team. That is: without power, pitching, or the ability to reliably catch the ball.
The pour is straight black & soon there are no evident bubbles anywhere. Lovely aroma – bourbon, maple syrup, blackstrap. Beer? Who cares.
Wake & Cake three of my top ten: stout, maple syrup, & bourbon. And it’s breathing fire. The bourbon scorches & leaves little fire trails in its wake but the maple cools it almost immediately. One of the few beers I’d actually classify as ‘hot’ this is boozier than the old guy at Town Hall around 6PM (funny story about him & my young/then daughters are young but this isn’t the time). Malt lends depth & chocolate & there is a harsh bite of hops & oak on the finish (& I mean that in a good way). Should come in small drums.
Something about the harsh, solvent-based barrel experience brings this to a taste plateau that I can’t recall in any other beer. Original tasting beers in 2021 are about as common as ethical Senators. Excellent beers that rubs asses with the elite.

Imperial stout aged in BLIS maple syrup bourbon barrels for 16 months. Vanilla, dark chocolate, maple syrup, cherry skin bitterness, toasted coconut and oak. Medium bodied. Gorgeous, silly black color. Transient kills the stout game. Real good.

Had on tap. Dark, thick, and cakey... But really. The smell is full of dark chocolate and maple with a hint a malt. The taste is far deeper and luscious. Chocolate because an ocean of thick fudge, the maple is not as sweet and gives way to other natural flavors, like molasses. The feel while thick, has a weird bright end. Delicious, but would be awesome if they threw in another "dark" ingredient.

All the maple. Really thick base beer. Stout is equally sweet and roasty with tons of fudge. The barrel and the maple shines through. Maple is the star of this show.
