22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 8/9/19.

Pours a darker amber, semi opaque, with a quarter inch foamy head and some loose, foamy cling. Aromas of caramel, toffee, malt, raisins, lots of butterscotch, brown sugar, some figs and plums, light bourbon, light oak. Similar flavors- caramel, butterscotch, malt, bourbon- more than the nose, raisins, brown sugar, some figs and grapes, light plums, hops that show more on the finish as it warms. Smooth, very good medium to full body, well carbonated.

Really enjoyed the big butterscotch presence, not something you get that often. The barrels are light, but they work. Great aroma. Very enjoyable, would buy this again.

Pours a bold tawny color that takes on a murky visage in the glass. A finger's worth of coarse, khaki bubbles settles expeditiously. Sumptuous aroma features brown sugar, cherries, maple syrup, dates, figs, currants, and bourbon—a veritable potpourri of the very best elements a barleywine has to offer.

At first blush, the taste features toffee, caramel, raisins, and butterscotch offset by zesty, herbal hops. Warming reveals maple syrup, molasses, and big-time brown sugar on the back end—the kind of refined sweetness that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Bourbon is mostly an afterthought, but that's hardly a detractor considering everything else going on here, which now includes notes of toasted bread and white grapes. Modest carbonation and medium-light body makes for a slightly limp mouthfeel that fills out a bit toward the middle and back.

Overall, this is a really nice barleywine that takes some opening up to fully appreciate, but once it does, there is a flavor bonanza to be had, and the aroma is an experience in and of itself. I've had better barleywines to be sure, but I'd readily place this in the upper echelon.

Pours caramel with some murkiness. A very sweet barleywine, with tons of toffee, caramel, vanilla, golden raisin, plum, fig, and candi sugar. Feel is sticky and sugary, with a cloying thinness at finish, too much syrup texture for me. Smell is best because you get all of that sweet goodness without the excess sugar.

A - Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin off white head. Light soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is bourbon, dark fruits and burnt sugar.

T - The taste is heavy bourbon, raisins, plums, vanilla, caramel and piney hops.

M - Medium body with medium/low carbonation. Soft mouthfeel with a sticky dry finish.

O - This is a pretty nice BBA Barleywine. Heavy bourbon flavor throughout make this a slow sipper.
