Buckley Reserve #2Buckley Reserve #2
Notes: Buckley aged in Foeder Crafters’ first ever whiskey Foeder. After 6 months it was then aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels to become a double barrel Canuckley.

Really good beer. The foeder barrels impart a smooth whiskey taste that is quite nice. I’m not sure if it is an improvement over the original Canuckley, but it is a fantastic variant nevertheless.

Rating #7000

Pours pitch black with a medium sized mocha head of mid-sized to large bubbles that recede to a collar quickly. Some nice legs on the glass when swirled.

Nose opens with big notes of vanilla infused maple syrup! Espresso and sweet bourbon follow. Bitter dark chocolate notes round this out. It's like smelling a breakfast of French toast covered in melted chocolate and maple syrup alongside a cup of dark roast coffee with a shot of bourbon mixed in!

The flavor delivers on the promises of the aroma! Tons of maple and coffee, and a good amount of dry cocoa powder. The bourbon brings some heat and subtle oak notes.

The mouth feel is pretty silky, though the carbonation is a bit high for the style and abv. There's some sharpness and heat, but it's not overwhelming.

This is an excellent barrel aged adjunct stout that shows how restraint and focus in adjuncting can help accentuate the best aspects of your beer. The bit of sharpness, heat, and higher carbonation are the only things holding this back from the elite tier of barrel aged stouts!

Very balanced even with double the maple. Funky foeder mixes with all the sweetness.

Buckley Reserve blend 2; vintage 2021 (aka batch 2 of double barrel Cantuckley)

500ml bottle poured into SP Charente glass.

Appearance: black bodied stout with dark brown colored head that poured 2 fingers tall from a hard pour. Head drops down to thin ring around the glass; head quickly dissipates and not much staying power here.

Smell: All adjuncts present. All adjuncts smell authentic. Maple, chocolate, oak, and bourbon are big. Vanilla aroma is light.

Taste: The stout leads with boozy and oaky milk chocolate with lots of earthy maple. Spicy vanilla note. light oak barrel char. Lighter coffee notes. reasonable balance even though this stout leans to the sweeter side.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied stout with almost moderate carbonation levels. Spicy booze note even even near room temperature. Sticky and slightly creamy texture to the body of this stout.

Overall: Slight edge to Buckley Reserve #1(double barrel Kentuckley) over Buckley Reserve #2(double barrel Cantuckley). DB Cantuckley is a bit sweeter and thinner than DB Kentuckley. DB Kentuckley seems to be a bit more nuanced/complex as well. All things considered this is yet another exceptional BA adjuncted stout by Transient.

I probably drank 1/8 of the keg of this at Fobab. I couldn’t stop going back to it, soo good! Thick, rich, full body, full coffee, full syrupy goodness! A+

Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a thin mocha head that fades to leave quickly to leave light wisps. The legs are phenomenal.

S - Big aromas of dark chocolate and fudgy cookies. Nice blend of barrels and vanilla. The maple is much fainter than I expected. As it warms the fudgy cookie whiskey notes are great.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with loads of dark chocolate and fudge. Big cookie notes and tons of maple sweetness. The maple almost comes across almost artificial. The barrel notes are nice but there could be more pop.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy, alcohol hidden really nicely but the finish is really syrupy.

O - Overall this was a decent stout, however, the maple is rather cloy and artificial. The alcohol is hidden nicely, however, it's rather sticky and syrupy. No where near as good as regular Canuckley.

Thanks to rudzud
Mild foamy black head fades quickly, little lacing, thick legs, pitch black thick beer

Nose super intense malt, roasty dark malt, little char, burnt coffee and a little cocoa, very dark chocolate, little fudgey, some maple, maple candy like but not a ton, little nutty, maple increases as it warms, light vanilla and cookie dough

Taste big sweet malt, idle char and cocoa, rich intense malt, syrupy, into mild maple, big vanilla, mild cookie dough with little baking spice, light buttery oak vanilla barrel, but all that is like sweet candy almost fake like, some warming tingly alcohol, super sweet, sticky sweet finish, hot alcohol finish

Mouth is fuller bod, syrupy sweet and hot alcohol, lower carb, syrupy

Overall this isn't up to the normal transient standards, not that great for what it should be

Beer of the year so far, absolutely incredible. Pour is midnight black with brown foam that settles into a ring with lacing. Smell is full of barrel character from both the whiskey and the bourbon, then from the woody booze aromas comes maple, vanilla, and fudge. Taste has the same flavors, but combines them into a cohesive whole, with both the two barrels and maple starring. Throw in some tobacco, soil and dark fruit in the background of it all, and you have a sweet, rich, deep, dark, boozy, rustic, and creative beer. Feel is viscous, smooth, sticky, heavy, and sweet, while having great barrel depth. Wow, just wow
