Bottle brought back from Germany by a friend on a recent trip. Ceramic swing-top bottle poured into a Foothills pilsner glass.

A: Pours a completely clear, deep golden color with almost no head, even after a violent pour. What foam there is disappears quickly to leave only a few very small patchy bubbles on top, with almost no ring.

S: I'm not very familiar with legit German beers, but this smells quite different from the typical American pilsner. A bit more malty than expected, with sweet honey, and a bit of earthiness. Sounds pretty good in writing, but it's less appealing in person.

T: Matches the aroma quite well. A solid malt backbone supports the earthiness of wheat and hay, and a strong flavor of honey that is present from sip to finish. A bit of hops and lemon kick things off, but the rest of the ride is malty and sweet. The flavor is a bit better than the smell, but it's still not something that I completely enjoy.

M: Moderately low carbonation and a slightly thin feel in the mouth. It's on par for the style, and may be slightly heavier due to the maltiness of this pilsner.

O: I'm glad I was able to try a retired German pilsner, but it's definitely not something that I'd seek out again. This may be typical of the style in Germany, but it seems a bit off in terms of taste and mouthfeel, in comparison to its American counterparts. Not unpleasant, but not as easy-drinking and refreshing as it could be.

This pilsner pours quite nicely, with a good amount of carbonation that helps produce a decent two finger thick head. Very clean looking with a billiant gold color.

This gives off less traditional aromas such as doughy breads, but there is a light freshly mown hay fragrance too.

Lohrer Pils has traditional flavors a lemony hops. There is a light toastiness that finishes this brew off.

This is a little heavier in body for a pils, but is still well rounded.
