A bomber dated 1/18/17 purchased at Binny's Beverage Depot poured in a 14oz. stout glass for the review.

Look- Pours a oily but flat looking black color leaving a centimeter of mocha colored foam. It rapidly settles to a thin ring with a small amount of lacing left behind.

Smell- Maple syrup, bakers chocolate and coffee. A slight fusel alcohol smell in the back.

Taste- Dark chocolate, sweet maple syrup, dark roast coffee, tobacco and some vanilla. A hint of char appears in the finish.

Feel- Oily but very flat lacking any visible carbonation.

Overall- A robust and flavorful stout that would benefit from more carbonation. It drinks very flat like a beer that has sat out for an extended period of time. The 13% abv. is very well hidden. I'm crossing my fingers the carbonation is tweaked the next time around as this could be something special.

Definitely the closest thing to smelling like pancakes I've had. Smell sets this one apart. Prost!

Tasted in a snifter from draft at The Vine on March 14, 2020. Lumberjack Breakfast is a milk stout brewed with lactose then coffee and maple is added.

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can. Canned on Nov 2018. Part of a trade with @nachos4two. thanks!
The beer pops open and splashes beer across my table. Filled to the brim for sure.
The color is jet black on the pour and a dense creamy tan head of 1.5 cm foams up and remains as a strong surface layer throughout my sampling. Tight lattice on my glass after each sip.
The aroma is large right away from the can opening. I get a lot of maple syrup and coffee ground, but more of a roasted and light and sweet coffee, not bitter and black. the maple is by far dominant and may be the biggest maple aroma Ive had on a beer. No hops and no hint of the ABV here either.
The first sip reveals a smooth creamy texture that coats my palate on each sip. The carbonation is fine and tingly but sort of spacious too. Body is pretty thick on this viscous brew. Physical traits tell me this is a sipping brew, except for the lack of any heat or booze.
Flavor is roasted malt and sweetened coffee, and again maple syrup, and more maple syrup. This flavor dominates and it isnt the cheap table syrup crap, but real maple flavor. So this is a bit of a sweet beer, but is definitely not one dimensional either.
Im pretty stoked about trying this beer as it is better than I anticipated, even though I thought it would be good, Im really liking it and my rating reflects that fact.
This is definitely worth pursuing if you like maple, malt and coffee in your beers. Go get it!

Black bodied with minimal head. Fantastic maple and coffee aroma and flavors. Maple is big and sweet; plus it tastes authentic. Big bold black coffee. Pretty thin mouthfeel. That is the only thing holding this beer back from greatness. The flavor and aroma is pretty outstanding in this stout. Hailstorm did a fine job with this beer it just needs more carbonation and a thicker body.

12oz draft pour into a snifter boasts a deep dark brown/mahogany black body and floats a disappearing 1/8in dark tan head. Some spotted lacing left behind.
Aroma is fresh black coffee with hints of chalky chocolate and, sadly, slight sour/burning rubber, upon agitation.
Flavors include coffee, maple syrup, cocoa, and almost-burnt sugar.
Mouthfeel leans heavy, actually, it feels lighter than expected for a thick beer.
The 13% is non-existent. No alcohol heat, no alcohol flavor. This is trouble.
I hope they keep working on it.

Hailstorm Lumberjack has a thin, tan head, a deep, dark brown (black) appearance, and prominent glass lacing. The aroma is of intense maple, coffee, and dark malts. The flavor is similar, with sugar and cream. Mouthfeel is heavy and velvety, and Hailstorm Lumberjack finishes sweet, but neither cloying nor boozy.

Appearance- The beer poured a murky black color with tan bubbles crowning the glass.

Smell - Wow. There coffee nose here is huge.

Taste - My initial impression is big coffee, smooth maple, and decadent dark chocolate. The maple is more present in the back end and also as the beer warms. This beer is not super sweet and actually balances the overall profile nicely.

Mouthfeel- The sticky sweetness of the maple reinforces the thickness.

Overall - Sharing this bottle is a good idea as the sweetness could get overwhelming. Still, this is well done.

This beer pours a viscous pitch black color. The nose is absolutely loaded with maple, coffee as is the flavor profile of this beer. But what’s important to note is that there’s actuall a robust malt profile to this beer, that provides some nice roasty flavors as well. Point is, yes it’s a maple bomb, but you get the nice stout base too. You would never know this beer was 13% ABV. Really fantastic stuff.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 1/18/17, had 1/28/17.

Pours a deep, oily looking brown, very opaque, with no head and some light oily lacing. The aroma is lots of good coffee, medium roast malts, cocoa, caramel, toffee, some maple- more as it warms. Smells great. The taste also starts with coffee, then caramel, roasted malts, maple, vanilla, light molasses. No bitterness, a bit sweet. Very smooth, fairly full bodied, a good amount of carbonation.

The coffee is the star here, and the maple is pretty vibrant, as well. An expressive beer, the flavors and especially the aromas are well developed. Strong effort.
