Pours a night black color with a small beige head, slowly fading to a fluffy, bubbly lacing.

Smells of vanilla infused cold pressed coffee, featuring a smooth fudge sweetness with a toffee undertone. Bakers chocolate and dried earth among old leaves create a well working, rustic malt foundation, leaving enough room for the carefully integrated adjuncts to compliment to the complexity of the nose.

Has a lower carbonation with a fuller, silk body, providing lots of cream and a warming, slightly sticky finish, which does not yet turn overly alcoholic.

Tastes of toffee, earth and bitter chocolate, with its coffee quality slowly turning sweeter and hotter with a late, alcoholic dryness. Wood bark and cinnamon add a pleasant, spicy bite, smoothed by flowery vanilla, introducing fudge and toasted malts. Finishes with phenolic alcohol, which gladly gets accompanied by more bitter chocolate, quite boozy while the beer remains drinkable.

Very nice dessert beer with a convincing earthy, rustic backbone to it, taming the beers sweetness, while its silk impression gets lost during the very hot, boozy finish.

I had this beer in a teku glass from the bottle on aug 19 2015. bb 2019-07-03 (I have no idea when it was actually bottled, but my guess is 5 years before bb date, 4 1/2 years makes no sense). The beer is pitch black with a very dark brown head, which disappears quickly. The taste is bitter (like cold coffee) with an obvious coffee note and with hints of vanilla. Would be very difficult to disclose the high alchohol content, except from the fact that the beer tastes better with every sip!
One minus though is that there's nothing on the bottle indicating that the beer is brewed with coffee (including the ingredients!), which I have understood is the case.

The colour is warm jet black (120 EBC), the two finger head is dark brown. It sinks slowly leaving some lacing on the glass.

The smell is strong with insane amounts of milk chocolate, coffee and roasted barley. Rough alcohol, hints of smoke and toffee, prunes and cocoa.

The taste is bitter-sweet, but not overly so. Milk chocolate, coffee, potent alcohol and cherries-in-brandy-sweets. Hints of coconut and chili peppers. Medium to full body. The aftertaste got notes of pralines, dried fruits, sugar sweetness and cream liquor. The long finish is elegant with charcoal and dark chocolate.

The carbonation is mild, the few smooth bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is smooth, but not at all sticky or heavy.

I really try to keep my ratings down when it comes to strong black ales. It is a bit too easy to be swept away by the big and fancy flavours. However, this RIS was something our of the ordinary: Wow!

330 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky black. Small mocha head. Thin collar.

Smell - Mmm. Fudgy and roasty. Deeply roasted. Faint hop aroma.

Taste - Intense dark chocolate and coffee malt. Gets pretty bitter. Almost harsh. Low sweetness. Works well.

Mouthfeel - Heavy body. Medium low carbonation. Intense and bitter.

Overall - I appreciate the roasted character and how the intense flavor comes through without that much sweetness.

Black motoroil with a dark bown, two finger high, head that leaves lacing on the glass.

Nose: Wow! This is good! Vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee beans, really nice and great smell of sweet coffe, raisin, dark fruit and toffee.
Taste: Espresso, vanilla, brown sugar, pine, nuts and roasted malt.
Body: Full body, light carbonation, a great bitterness at the end. Very well hidden alcohol (ABV:12%).

This is a GREAT beer!
