Notes:
A well-balanced double IPA with a semisweet malt backbone and complimented with generous amounts of citrus & tropical fruit hops. Rich, delicious, and rewardingly punishing.

when in maryland...
eyes...
slightly hazy orange, clean white head that sticks around, lacing is good, carbonation is average, good enough to meet the style
nose...
citrus, strong orange peel, nice pine back end of hop notes, slightly astringent
taste etc...
solid mouthfeel, prickly carbonation, oh where have the hops gone my friend ? Suddenly malty, which would be fine if I didn't have to put out a missing person's report for the hops, double the IPA means ... well, at least to me, some damn hop kick, this has barely to none, way too sweet a finish for my liking (or not liking in this case), not a bad beer but never in a million years would I blind taste this as a DIPA, maybe an IPA... maybe
verdict?
not a bad beer, but only an average DIPA at best, the beer shows marks in certain departments (mouthfeel, carbonation) but lacks seriously in the most important category for this swisher of brew.

This came across to me as an exceedingly ordinary double IPA. My drinking companion called it the worst he has ever had. I won't go that far, but it was just unremarkable and quite plain for the style

A golden, amber beer with a little bit of a frothy head. The smell is fruit with some yeast and hop notes. As for the taste, it’s very flavorful with powerful citrus and hop flavors

One the boy brought back from a recent D.C. trip for me. Head retention was not that great. Smell was minimal. Medium amber in color. Nice hoppiness to it. I thought that it tastes great and was very pleased woth it despite what some might perceive to be flaws would buy again if it were available here.

This one features nice balance in the nose, with obvious sweet malt complemented nicely by the citrus and pine, with a touch of black pepper perhaps. The look is solid; amber with orange highlights and a steady head leaving frosty rings of lace as a keepsake.
The balance continues in the taste, although the flavor leans to the malty side in the finish, and the texture doesn't hold up as well, getting a touch watery. A bit of graininess intrudes upon the aweetness, and the alcohol starts to overwhelm the hops. There is a spicy note as well, but it doesn't meld with the booze toned maltiness as well.
Not my favorite of the style; slightly disappointing.

I got one can of this beer from a friend and I loved it.
Pours with a great head, and lacing tracks every sip to the bottom of the glass. Bright, glowing amber in color, and slightly hazy, as expected.
The beer smells strongly of citrus-grapefruit, but also has earthly, woody, and sweet malty notes, giving this beer a nice, appealing complexity.
The taste is balanced, and similar to the aroma, with citrusy hop flavors, slightly sweet malt flavor, and notes of grain, earth, and wood. The flavors shift and play on the palate, another appealing complexity. The finish is clean, with just a bit of pleasant bitterness. Each taste calls for the next.
The body is medium, about as light as can be expected from a beer this big and complex, and the carbonation is appropriate.
This beer suits my taste perfectly, and I would make it my go-to, everyday beer if I could. Unfortunately, I live on the west coast, so I can't.

Pale amber color, slightly hazy from the hops. Poured a large creamy head with good retention.
A somewhat generic aroma - malt and muted hops. Slightly metallic aspect of it.
Big malt backbone, quite malty sweet up front. Decent hop flavor midmouth with some pine, but not hugely bitter on the backend. Too much malt or insufficient bittering - skews a little sweet for my palate.
Medium-full body and fairly high carbonation. No astringency. Some gentle alcoholic warming.
Double IPAs are hard to get right. I rarely like them, and this one falls into the "a decent beer but not for me" category. Hops and malt don't really come together in a coherent package in my view.
