The colour is yellow with a tint of orange, the liquid is hazy. The three-finger head is off-white and airy, it sinks slowly to an uneven lid leaving some lacing on the glass.
The rather mild smell is sweet and fruity with some bitterness. Lots of orange juice, orange peel and some grapefruits. Some orange-flavoured candy, hints of lactose and ripe bananas.
The taste is bitter-sweet with passing notes of orange toffee and other fruit candy. The medium strong bitterness got some tart notes of lemon acid. Toffee and a touch of whipped cream. Medium body. The aftertaste brings more fruit candy, citric juice and green bananas. Growing sweetness and not so much bitterness in the short finish.
The carbonation is medium strong; the mid-sized bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is smooth and a bit thick.
A DIPA that… Just isn’t enough double for me: I had expected more hop character, more body and stronger bitterness, New England or not.
