On tap at a beer fest and, In Jan. 2017, at the brewpub.
This is a milk porter with coffee, toasted coconut, and cocoa nibs. There is plenty of coffee and coconut in the nose, but the coffee is perhaps more obvious in the flavor, as is the chocolate. Both sweet, especially up front, and mildly bitter.

O: very rich and mildly sweet overall, this should be a fine dessert or after meal beer.

Pours a clear deep brown producing 3+ fingers of dense, frothy, somewhat lasting, deep mocha head that recedes to leave scattered splashes of splotchy, wispy lace. A coffee dipped Mounds candy bar in a can is a short but very apt description. Shares similarities with Oskar Blues Death by Coconut but less robust without the roasted nuttiness of that brew. Aroma is coconut heavy, creamed coffee, cocoa, toasted dark bread & brown sugar. The taste is sweeter than the nose indicates, expressing itself as coconut, coffee, cream, cocoa, dark bread, caramel/molasses & a little char. Fronted by coconut, coffee & cocoa with roasted & burnt malt notes coming in after mid-sip becoming more discernible in the finish, dwindling to a malty, toasted coconut, coffee& cocoa aftertaste. There is a nice balance between bitter & sweet in the finish but rapidly fades in the aftertaste. No alcohol presence in either nose or mouth. Mouthfeel is medium bodied but slightly thin for the style with moderate carbonation but even so is creamy, smooth & lightly chewy. Delightful.

Chocolate porter with coconuts and coffee. Roasted malts and caramel. Great complex porter.

Thin and slick. Fairly unremarkable. No detectable nose. Thin flavor. Not sure why this is highly rated.

Pours a deep, deep dark brown with a huge brown head and exceptional side glass lace with good retention.

AROMA: Burnt malts, coffee molasses.
TASTE: More of the same, creamy syrupy and thick on the tongue.

Porter is a style that I find I like but not a style that I ever have interest in having more than one.

12 oz. can. Deep brown. Milk chocolate aroma. Roast. Some lactose. Taste is sweet and lactose-y. Heavy roast, surprisingly. Brown malts and milk chocolate. Medium body. I don't dig the lactose, but the rest is good.

No label information. Koko Buni is brewed in the style of an American Porter with Toasted Coconut, Cocoa nibs and coffee added. Available in 12 oz. canned 4 packs and limited draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. can to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp foamy head of a medium brown tone over a very dark brown, near black body. Retention is very good and lacing is light and stringy. 4

(Smell) Toasted bread malts, earthy cocoa nibs, lightly acidic coffee and delicate roasted coconut shavings with a moderate sweetness. Much of the bitterness comes from the acidity of the coffee and specialty bill, and the balance is decidedly sweet, in keeping with the presentation of this beer as a milk porter. Potency is moderate. 3.75

(Taste) The flavor largely follows the aroma, with a moderately roasted profile of coffee and cocoa bean up front, a toasted bread and soft caramel midsection, and a clean, lightly acidic coffee bean finish. The coffee comes through most boldly and is a driving flavor in this beer. The chocolate is as well, unfortunately I didn't pick up as much on the coconut as I had hoped, as this would have been the most unique ingredient, but if present, it is simply overshadowed by the richness of the coffee and chocolate. This beer certainly doesn't drink quite as light on the body as a porter is expected to, but that's not a problem for me. 4

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, moderately oily, lightly chewy, mildly dry. Carbonation is light, generating a mild frothiness and a mildly crisp finish. Texture overall feels a bit lifeless, nearing flat, I was hoping for something a bit more frothy and "creamy". Body is medium+ for the style, medium/heavy overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to earthy bitter and acidic. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.5

(Overall) Another respectable and largely enjoyable seasonal release from the more often than not outstanding Athens brewery. The richness of the chocolate and coffee that go into this beer are very evident in the flavor, alluding to something with slightly more depth than an average porter. I was hoping for a bit more coconut profile, but as it stands, it's likely safer to play this flavor more down than going overboard with it. The texture was very slick without being sticky, but nearing flat for me, and I was hoping for a bit more texture or creaminess for a "milk porter". Overall, Koko Buni is a very solid American Porter but not without its opportunity for growth. 4
