2015 vintage; drank 11/21/15 @ Harvest Hop Haus.

Black/brown appearance.

Almost no tan head; almost no lace.

Brown sugar, bourbon, maple syrup & oak notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Maple syrup, roasted coffee bean & milk chocolate flavors up front; smooth bourbon & rich vanilla notes on the finish.

Unbelievably rich, complex & delicious. Possibly the best beer I've ever tasted.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours deep black in color with a small creamy khaki head that has short retention and leaves nothing behind

S- smells of sweet maple, roasted malt, bourbon barrel & charred malt

T- hint of maple sweetness up front gives way to sweet chocolate and caramel, as well as a hint of barrel character, giving some woody oak and bourbon notes. The finish gives tons of roast, lingering of charred malt and a hint of smoke

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a slick finish

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2017, blue session. Dark brown color with fizzy brown foam. Aroma is sweet with toffee an dark fruits, mostly raisins. Taste is also sweet, malty, sticky with dried fruits and bourbon. Finish is more bitter and dry.

Poured on draft at the Creature Comforts 3rd Anniversary Tour. Appearance is thick and viscous and completely black with minimal head. Taste is a perfect combination of maple, chocolate, and bourbon with layers upon layers of flavor. Some barrel/wood and tasted notes were also present. However, chocolate and maple are most prevalent with just enough bourbon to add another dimension. Mouthfeel was smooth and thick but not super heavy (it didn't need to be) with relatively low carbonation.

Overall, this beer is unreal good. The layers of flavors are perfectly executed, and the mouthfeel is extremely smooth. None of the oxidation that is present in Existence shows up here, possibly hidden by the maple or the different barrels used. This stout finds a nice balance between heavy and flavorful yet drinkable. If you are sipping this by a fire, I am jealous.

Was lucky enough to track one of these down and enjoyed it the other night for my 41st birthday with a friend… Tons of maple on the nose and although a little thin this has a nice maple finish with some chocolate and smooth bourbon

Great beer here, but not as great as I was expecting. Ton of maple on the nose and tongue, but thin for my taste. Some of the flavors seemed to muddle each other a bit at times as well, but overall very enjoyable

Tried this at a share on 3/26, so the bottle was close to a year old. Lots of maple syrup on the nose, but it was not overpowering in the taste. It was a little thin for an RIS, probably because of the lower ABV. Overall I really enjoyed it and it is work seeking out

I should start by saying I'm from Georgia and a massive fan of Creature Comforts and so many of the things they do (my profile pic is from one of their releases.) Fresh Tropicalia, Athena/Paradiso, a lot of their Brett stuff and other beers they do are absolutely fantastic.

This beer, while enjoyable, is not exceptional in any way other than perhaps sweetness (which for me is not a good thing). From the pour the beer looks the part; thick, oily black with a very thin, tan head. The excessive sweetness takes over immediately on the nose. The nose is heavy on fudge, maple syrup and leaves just a trace of barrel. The taste seems to follow the nose but on such a cloyingly sweet level I had a hard time finishing a 12 ounce glass. The mouthfeel was everything you want in a big stout. Unless there was some bottle variation, I can't imagine how people used the word "thin" or describe it as lacking in mouthfeel. They cannot have been drinking the same beer I was. The mouthfeel may honestly be the best part of this beer.

Overall, In a 4 or 6 ounce pour, this beer would be rich and decadent, a true dessert beer. In a 12 oz pour it took me an hour plus to finish. I'm still proud of Creature, as an up-and-coming brewery, for a solid first BA stout offering... but I would like to see them step up their game for their next limited release stout.

A - black, opaque...minimal head
S - maple, fudge and bourbon
T - same as the nose. Tons of fudge here. Very sweet.
M - thick and very viscous. Coats the glass and your mouth.
O - outstanding stout! Lives up to the hype for me

This beer was a utter disappointment. Luckily I had this after the hype train had gone but holy shit talk about all hype and not delivering. First off this beer was as thin as beer can get, absolutely no body when you expect a big stout. I know it isnt a must but seriously this was like water. Absolutely no maple on this when I had it. This reminded me more of a BA old ale/barleywine than a big stout. Very sweet, not dark lord sweet but too sweet for my liking. Honestly this was just a mess of a beer.

Quite frankly, I just didn't get the hype behind this one. It's a decent BA stout, but I got very little maple flavor, and instead it came off as overly sweet. Just not my thing, unfortunately, and definitely a little disappointing.

2015 vintage in a 750mL on 11/21/2015 (starting FOBAB off right!) split 4 ways, so 6.3oz pour.

L - thick, viscous, black with a small tan head and a little lacing. Super thick

S - Maple bursts out of the bottle the moment the cap was removed! Maple syrup, roasty chocolate, and a hint of coffee and oak. A little bourbon but not much booze on the nose.

T - Amazing. Layers upon layers of maple, bourbon, chocolate, and roastiness. Some coffee flavors hit after the maple starts it. Sweet milk chocolate throughout the flavors and maple continues to open up with more oak and vanilla notes as it warms. Should be drank at aging temp or warmer. Drinkability is great. No heat or booze at all.

F - thick, viscous, smooth. Could drink this very fast. No booze, no heat.

Overall, just a phenomenal beer. I really do not understand how there seems to be some varying reviews on this. If for some reason they had some inconsistency in the bottles, I am extremely glad and fortunate to be on the winning side of that. One of the best beers I have had by far. I love these maple syrup type beers and this one certainly is elite, world-class, etc. I'd love to get more of this and pour some on some hot pancakes!

Poured into a tulip - elite mouthfeel with nice roasty characteristics but this one was exceedingly sweet for the amount of maple that was detectable. A bit over-hyped IMO.

Bottle share at my place. Bottle was literally filled 2 millimeters from the cap. The maple was coating the lip of the bottle and you could see a bit on the label from when this was filled. The smell was maple and booze. But then the taste was amazing. Maple, bourbon, roasted malts, thick and chewy. I was afraid that the hype on this was overblown, but I was wrong. This was crazy good and wish I could drink this more often.

L: Great lacing, dark brown head, black body
S: Sweet like maple, some roast
T: Mildly sweet with some maple overtones, not as much as I would of liked but still, very solid.
M: Thick
O: A great beer to try and a stand out in its class from CC, for a first bottle!

Didn't get as much maple flavor as I was expecting. Still a really good beer, thick mouthfeel flavors blended well but was expecting a little more maple.

Pour dark, small pour so little head. Super bourbon-y nose, not much else, but taste doesn't follow at all, well, maybe on the booziness. Super sweet, lots of maple, too sugary for me. Another year maybe the booze will calm and the sugar will mellow.

Let me say I enjoyed this. The mouthfeel was elite and nearly as good as a TG stout. Nose was very sweet, not a ton of maple as I hoped. The tasted followed suit, kind of like a black tuesday with some maple.

For the bad news: This is not worth what it trades for. Keep your whales, you dont need to tick this beer.

Black with tan head. Bourbon and vanilla spot on. Oaky. Smooth. Vanilla. Creamy. Rich. Full bodied.

Ends with a little roast. Other than that, it is a great beer.

Well worth the hype. Very nice.

Poured a dark thick black with minimal head. Smells of maple and booze. Tasted the sweetness of the maple followed by the smooth bourbon heat that is incredibly well balanced. Nice thick oily mouth feel. This beer totally lived up to and exceeded the hype for me. Would love to have another one of these.

Where on earth is the maple? Tons of stout characteristics, chocolate and coffee but the maple is non existent. Slight vanilla butterscotch taste with a charred aftertaste. Kinda boozy too. Should have known that people were hyping this for trade value. Oh well. Not recommended.

This beer was nothing short of amazing! Nice and thick with a nice bourbon smell and taste and the maple blended in very nicely. Smooth from start to finish and didn't taste as strong as its listed.

Wow, talk about something that doesn't live up to the hype. Had it in a double blind taste test with other maple stouts. Not even remotely comparable to things like:

Maple Fayston
Pugachev Black Maple

Really thin beer that is totally one dimensional and incredibly sweet. They must have been taking lessons on stouts from The Bruery but only learned how to make it a beetus bomb.

Really one dimensional. Tasted blind last night and it was just a major sugar bomb and quite boring. Not sure of the hype on this one. Tasting blind almost no one thought it was barrel aged.

Pours almost black and oily.
Flavor is sweet but not strong maple syrupy. Has some coffee flavor and bitterness on the end. Light carbonation. Mouthfeel has a good viscous almost chewy nature.
