Thanks to JBowenGeorgia for this gem. Received in our now infamous NBS BIF #5.

Pours a deep mahogany. But the head that slowly churns forth is beyond spectacular. It starts out languidly. But just as I started to glance away, I caught a motion that entranced me. A slow roil rose from the dark pool of my glass. A slow rising of milky head was cascading upward. It was glorious too behold. Mocha color mother of pearl sheened bubbles by the thousands were forming this vertical cascade that formed a tight milky head2 fingers high.
Aromas began with a gentle coffee roast, mild baker's chocolate with a hint of bitter, and a slight toasted cracker.
Flavor goes a tad sweeter than the nose hints at. But the sweet that leans dark chocolate turns promptly toward a slightly bitter baker's chocolate and coffee roast. A slight toasty note is on the end, but I don't think i can specifically attribute this to coconut. Ever so slight hint of vanilla on the finish.
Mouthfeel is full, more stout than porter. I'm fine with that. It has a smooth slickness too.
Overall, quite good. Maybe a tad more sweet and coconut would make it even better.

Pour at the Modern Times Carnival of Caffeination. I was looking forward to trying this one, but something was off. The feel was a little strange and the adjunct flavors just didn't blend well and were pretty muddled. Not a bad beer by any means, but a bit of a disappointment.

The Double Koko Buni has flavor characteristics similar to the regular Koko Buni, but much stronger. Well balanced, great mouth mouth feel and thoroughly enjoyable.

On tap at in Jan. 2017 at the brewpub.
This is a milk porter with coffee, toasted coconut, and cocoa nibs. Consumed just after the regular and stellar Koko Buni, this imperial version is disappointing, It's boozy tasting, has a minimal tan head, has a slightly harsh mouthfeel, and the fine balance of ingredients is off. The aroma in particular is deteriorated, with some vegetative aspects. Mildly bitter.

O: very rich and bitter-sweet overall, this is worth trying but a poor variant on the fie Koko Buni.

How do you make KoKo Buni better? Make it a double. This thick, creamy, coffee filled beer is nothing but the best. It looks dark, rich and chocolate. And tastes every bit of what you would expect from CCBC! Only the best.
