Notes: The base beer for Existence was brewed shortly after we opened our doors back in April 2014. The brew was designed to age and develop over time into the refined and well-‐balanced Imperial Stout that is now Existence.

After 19 months of aging in Willet bourbon barrels, the beer is ready for release, coming in at 11.8% abv. Existence is an intense yet balanced Imperial Stout with a strong structure and viscous body (some of you may have even gotten to try it at our 2 Year Anniversary Tour!) The beer features notes of oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, subtle cherry and bourbon.

I wish I could have tried the first batch. 2019 release is a bit of a let down. Looks thin. Aroma is nice, good bit of roast and barrel. Flavor is dry and bitter with none of the fudgy richness I want. Mouthfeel is fairly thin. Certainly not a bad beer, but nothing special.

Pours a nearly black with minimal tan head that quickly turned into a thin ring around the edge. Definitely smell the bourbon barrel, some chocolaty malt but mainly bourbon. The bourbon was a little subdued in the taste but still there, this allowed the toasted malt, caramel, and chocolaty flavors to really shine. A swirl in the glass leaves a thin film that quickly rejoins the rest of the liquid so a little thick but not overly so.

Black with tan head. Thick.

Big barrel presence. Love the Willet barrels. Bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Molasses and fudge.

Full bodied. Rich and chewy. Ends with a little roast.

Solid BA stout. Very enjoyable.

Had this as part of a BBA stout flight. All three that participated in the flight agreed it was tastier and more nuanced than parabola but not as deliciously complex as the 2014 BCBS.

It was wonderfully roasty, with sweet caramel notes. It was over carbonated, but still an amazing offering.

I'll crack open my other one in a couple of years and see how it changes.
