On tap at Steamworks, Gastown. May 2010.

Appearance: Hazy orange ochre with small head and no lacing but there was little attempt to create a head from what I observed sitting at the bar.

Aroma: Massive ginger assault. Sweet malt hints. Some corainder seed. Far more ginger in the aroma than in 2009.

Taste: Huge ginger flavour, bringing sweetness and moderate burn. Some coriander seed and orange or tangerine. Well balanced. Sweet overall but pleasantly so as it contrasts with the burn from the ginger that simply wasn't there last year.

Mouthfeel: Fairly full bodied, crisp carbonation.

Drinkability: Very sessionable and enjoyable. The burn is satisfyingly strong enough to be rewarding without being over the top. Really tasty beer.

A - Clear gold with a modest foam.

S - Light beery aroma, but not any noticeable ginger.

T - Very light ginger flavour and somewhat tart. Lack of other flavours would make sense, except the ginger didn't fill the gap.

M - Light body and somewhat refeshing.

D - This was a bit of a disappointment for me. Mostly a fairly bland ale with a hint of ginger and not very exciting.

One of Steamwork's better offerings. Typical pale ale colour with a sort of golden glow to it. Head is unremarkable, but this is nice in that it doesn't billow up like some of their other beers I've had from a growler.

Smell is a little disappointing....there is definitely ginger in there, but it is very sweet and lacks bite. Possibly the only real detractor of this beer.

Mellow ginger taste, subdued but by no means tame. The malts lend a certain balancing sweetness to this. The whole experience is one of drinkability. This is very easy to sip and enjoy...the quintessential session beer.

Just as the suns starts to come out in Vancouver Steamworks brings out its amazing Pilsner but this time it has a spicy cousin in a brand new ginger beer. The beer seems to be based on an ale with a great fresh ginger top note on the nose. The secret on this beer is that your palate is refreshed with every sip. The spiciness almost tastes like a Spring equivalent of the Pumpkin beer that comes out in the Fall. I could drink this beer all day which says something for this style. Goes well with Asian influenced offerings on the menu
