When I first started exploring a broad variety of beers 15 years ago, this was one of my absolute favorites. Yes there are better Belgian tripels out there, and I now notice some minor flaws, but this is still a really good beer! The color matches the name nicely - a slightly opaque golden hue. The initial head is delicious, and I prefer the taste when it's just been opened. As you leave it sitting for a while after pouring, a little bit of sourness comes in that isn't the most appealing. The mouthfeel without the head is a touch syrupy and oily, but goes down smooth. At 9.5% ABV, this monkey packs a wallop. I don't know why, but I always feel the alcohol from a 12-oz bottle of Golden Monkey more than I do from a full pint of an 8% beer. It's also worth pointing out that the price point on this beer is really excellent, both for the quality of the beer and how quickly it will get you ****faced.

Superb Ale, Full of Intense Flavors.
I will start with the Look. Poured into a Tulip Glass, Yields an appearance very simular to most Pale Lagers. Bright Pale Pilsner Color. Straw yellow, not a whole lot going on as far as bubbles or head. Swirl the glass to get a thin Cap and to release some aromatics. After I swirled, I got a respectable modest Cap of foam. Moving on the the Nose. The Aromatic qualities of this Ale are as expected with any strong ale. Very deep, notes of sugar and Spice. there is a signature note that some lighter ales have that is present in this Beer. Much like Banana Bread or an other spiced bread. there is still a level of lightness, No oats or wheat. Now talking about the flavor. This Ale is on par with the few European counterparts I've had. The higher amount of alcohol really plays in favor for this beer since its a Pilsner malt only beer. Other Ales use heavy Malts and unmalted grains to add dimension. This ale has all of that dimension in spades. Very Sweet and hit of clove, underlying depth of barrel aged liquor. Middle is fruity like cooked bananas with candied oranges. keeping that clove through the sip, cleans up minimally not much in the way of hop flavor. end is satisfying slightly dry. The Feel of this Ale is what pulls this beer together for me. Medium to heavy body. creamy and rich mouthfeel. Not overwhelming. Overall, this style is not my favorite persay. I do occasionally get a craving for a spiced Belgian Ale. I also like these beers around just for the fact, they are different. the higher amount of alcohol adds a level of depth, there is a lot about this beer to explore, when you slow down to appreciate it.

L: nice, golden (go figure) color. easy pour yields about a finger and a half of head, which dissipates pretty quickly and without a trace.
S: spices, cloves, esters, banana.
T: follows the nose, heavy on the banana and spices. a little alcohol taste and warmth on the back end. an ever-so-slightly bad after taste leaves me reaching for another sip quickly.
F: effervescent. medium, but chewy.
O: a solid beer, and one that I'd have no problem grabbing at the store or at the bar. there are better options in the style, for sure, but this is a great option at a great price.

Truly an underrated triple. The old recipe was far more abrasive (I loved it; but many didn’t). The new recipe is far more balanced and smooth. A solid go-to for any triple lover!

Packs a punch at 9.5% ABV but doesn't taste overly strong. Easy to drink and good to mix in when drinking beers under 5% ABV as a good boost to your buzz.

Canned 8/9/19. Let warm to 50F .

Slightly hazy gold, with ample, fairly coarse, off-white head. Dissipates quickly to a 1/8" ring, and a thin surface coat of bubbles, with a few spots of lacing .

Smells of banana extract, slight clove, and a slightly piney, solvent-like aroma. Guessing that last bit is alcohol + hops. Some light doughy aroma from the open can.

Taste is light banana bread, though not as sweet, coriander, clove, a touch of sweet apple & pear, goldenrod honey, a little biscuity malt and light bitterness on the finish.

Feel is medium, oily, with some very fine, light carbonation tingle.

Overall, enjoyable. Not the top of the list , but good every now and then.

12oz can. Bottom of can is stamped 'CANNED ON 24 APR 2019'.
Nearly clear, pale gold colored body. Slim finger of white head upon initial pour, which settles back to a thin cap and ring. Leaves behind some scattered lacing spots on the drinking side.
Aroma of toasted malts and yeast (bubble gum and rubber eraser). Some banana and cloves.
Taste is toasted malts, banana, cloves, and some fruity notes from the hops.
Medium mouth feel. Very good carbonation.
This is rather hoppy for a tripel, and the hops and the phenols and esters clash in a way, instead of adding complexity. Overall good, and easy to drink. Hides the higher ABV% well. I would drink this again if looking for a spicy, higher alcohol strong ale.

A really nice honey-amber gold with very little foaming. Big warm, sweet nose, mostly of honey, but with a somewhat effervescent (not sure how that is a smell, but I don't know what else to call it) breath to it. taste is sweet and light and the hop bitterness comes out almost immediately and lingers to dominate the taste. feel is sweet and light and the carbonation is relatively minimal.

Decent enough tripel. Nice carbonation, as expected, but darker than I usually like. Tends toward the spicier end of tripels rather than balancing with banana /bubble gum notes. Bready, sweet, and spiced.

cloudy gold with just a hint of carbonation. little to no head. no lacing
great smell. clove, honey, banana
same flavors coming through as in the smell and a little spicy. yeast is ever present. rides out with warming booziness
lightly carbonated, medium body. not very sticky.
overall it's missing something in the depth but it's still a delicious tripel.

Deceivingly smooth, flavor-forward with balanced spices and sweetness. I am gladly sharing my Duvel glass with this craveable, domestic work of art. Alcohol content seems low at first but becomes more pronounced as the temperature increases, as do the spice and Belgian yeast notes. I can see why this beer's character could be a little polarizing but it has become my new go-to, sip and enjoy, chill-out and enjoy life beer. I'm chasing it with a mild-mannered Boddingtons! Life is good.

Struggling with the spiced triple ale. Clove? Prefer it on a ham during the holiday. I suggest a holiday beer. Not for all occasions. Mildly yellow, slightly opaque. Smooth on the tongue. Virtually no foam head.

A pretty good Belgian Tripel

Look: clear golden with a thick white head

Aroma: wheat, yeast, banana

Taste: The flavor is wheat, yeast, banana, some alcohol, a typical good Belgian Tripel.

Body/Overall: medium body

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chalice.

Poured a deep golden straw/light honey. Suspended yeasties but an otherwise fairly clear appearance. Head is soapy and rocky, persistent and laces with nice stick.

Aroma is of candy sugar and bready malt. Sweet rolls and honey buns. Crystal malt dominates with the sweetness riding high. Almost like a weiss.

Flavor is banana and bubble gum flavors. Straight up wheat twang and it's lip smacking good. This is like a huge dunkleweiss. I'm digging the band aid phenols and huge flavor of this beer.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and sticky.

This is a very nice beer not sure about it being a Belgian, but damn.

Bought a 6-pack of cans at a nearby Publi* grocery store near Braselton GA. On a first try of this brew my advice to VB Company is, tastes like weak pumpkin beer or worse. Nice try though !

Picked up this beauty two 16oz for 4.58 at 7-11. Cha Ching. On the $ per ABV I rocked. Let’s give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a fine Belgian waft of malt and nutmeg. Pours to a bright orange with a bright white head. Taste is sweet nutmeg and malt with a bit of bitterness. The aftertaste is pungent and then sweet. A nice drinker. At this price point at 7-11 this is scary cool.

I really wanted to like this beer, but I just can't. It's got a cloying sweetness and weird aftertaste, I think from the yeast esters, that just turns me off. I can drink a bottle now and again, but then I have to go drink something else to get that banana-ish, estery taste out.

What can I say? How about since we moved back to the States from Germany and I now have very limited to the Great German and Belgian Biers I enjoyed over there, this has become my new "Go-To" bier. I have nothing bad to say about this bier. I like it all the way around. It's a bit pricey at $12.00 a six pack but, better beirs are always going to cost more.

Looks deep golden and unfiltered, quickly dissipating foamy head. Leaves rings of lacing in Libbey Belgian beer glass. Smell alcohol esters, mild banana, mild clove. Tastes of banana, caramel malts, mild plum. Feels semi viscous but well carbonated. Finishes semi dry with a lingering banana clove taste. Overall this is very good. I have never really been a fan of Belgian yeast. That being said I would recommend this-

Pours a larger fluffy pillowy white head with good retention and great lacing, clear bright golden color with some sediment flaoting

Nose sweet candi sugar and Belgian golden malts, mild perfumey alcohol, phenol spices, some fruity esters, bubblegum and hint of banana, mild coriander-like spices, but also a bit solventy

Taste brings more of the same, sweet golden Belgian malts, grainy-sweet and a touch doughy, candi sugar and some perfumey alcohol again, plenty of esters with bubblegum, little banana, as well as phenol spices, coriander, little cereal grains and some fig and apricot notes, slight drying finish but sticky and more alcohol

Mouth is med bodied, a little sweet sticky, medium to lighter carbonation, some warming alcohol

Overall not bad, nothing special, nice esters and decent phenols, alcohol is OK, malts are a bit too light overall, and sticky feeling is a little heavy for what it is, but otherwise good

I tried this while on vacation recently, and although it's not my favorite Belgian-style tripel, it's darned good. It pours with a modest head and shows little lacing. The beer is very strongly and deliciously scented, but unfortunately the flavor doesn't follow up on that. It's relatively mild for a tripel. But that doesn't stop it from being a nice drink! The slightly fruity, spicy flavor and light feel make it nicer on a hot day than most tripels.

This an acquired taste. Unlike other beers I've reviewed recently, this one took some time for me to really fall in love.

Look: Golden. Clingy lacing, somewhat hazy. Nice.

Smell: Herbal hops, rich malts, some kind of apricot-like fruit. Again, nice.

Taste: And, THIS is where it becomes a love-it-or-hate-it beer. The hops from the nose are present, but subdued. The malts take a more pronounced, biscuit-y role, and the subtle apricot undergoes a Hulk-like transformation into a strong banana flavor that almost completely covers up the alcohol. Takes some getting used to, but nice.

Feel: Fairly heavy. In fact, the strong malt presence and high ABV reminds me somewhat of a Scottish Wee Heavy. Still, smooth and once again, nice.

Overall: A subtle "creeper" beer that you'll find yourself craving on occasion. Nice!
