12 ounce bottle poured into a Chimay chalice.
A--Uh...Golden. Hazy, perhaps from heavy yeast. Excellent head with very nice lacing. Looks like you'd want an actual Belgian to look.
S--Yeast, clove, banana, spice. There's two tons of stuff going on here.
T--Absolutely awesome. Spice/clove and banana to start. The yeast is fairly prominent, with some citrus and just a little less maltiness than I would prefer. With a little more malt, it could reach perfection.
M--A bit sticky (not that there's anything wrong with that). Decent carbonation. I wouldn't by any means call it "refreshing" or "quenching", but excellent for what it is.
O--I will confess to a prejudice towards Victory, but I believe that is warranted by their excellence. Golden Monkey is my favorite Victory product. This is everything that American craft beers aspire to. It may not be 100% up your alley (as it is mine), but you absolutely have to appreciate the attempt to be perfection.

a – clove. spicy. little hop presence. some malt. boozy.

a – golden with thin white head that dissipates quickly. no haze.

f – clove and pepper. reads bitter.

m – medium body. under carbonated. astringency.

o – decent triple. better carbonation and reduction of astringency would improve this beer.

I feel this beer demands getting to the point so here it is.

Clean and simple. That's really all I need to say but to expand the beer is cloudy and hazy from a lot of yeast. It sadly stops with the good stuff there. The flavor is clean and crisp for the style but I'm not thrilled with it. It is simple, boring, and lacks the nuances or character you'd hop for. What is left is everything boring and well bad with the Belgian yeasts.

Avoid, pass on and if you thought this was a well done review this is the beer for you. If you think I was rushing to put together words to score a crappy beer....well you nailed it. Still this is bad.

My first impression on retrying this beer after an I impressive first taste (history: I have grown more fond of Belgians): it's got some alcohol in it. Alcohol with a twinge of metal notes override an okay beer with some banana and date tastes in the background.

A: Cloudy golden color, some retention but minimal lacing;
S: banana and malt nose
T: see above
O: slightly better than I recalled, but not going to opt for another in near future if other options available (which there more than likely will be)
