Bright Golden color, almost glowing in the glass, the head white white and fluffy.

The scent is yeasts, clove, some big banana notes at times and an earthy malt aroma.

The taste was deceiving as I caught more wheat, clove and metallic banana. Advertised as a Tripel it seemed to be missing some elements.

The feel was medicinal, almost sour vinegary. Left an aftertaste of metal and band aids. Those with me did not express the same opinions so there may be personal issues at play but I was disappointed.

Yet another bottle from a mixed pack poured into a 10-oz goblet.

Pours golden yellow, a bit lighter than expected. Lot's of white, lumpy but very soft head that goes down quickly, leaving a thin film of fine foam on the surface, plus the collar. Moderate lacing. Visible carbonation continues piping for a while.

Bottle nose is pure Belgian yeast, eventually yielding a slight malt note. A bit more malt in the glass, but still opens very floral, bready, with a nutmeg and raisin note coming later. No leafy or grassy aromas, but booze is clearly showing through after the initial hit of yeast.

Flavor profile is yeast and dry fruit--perhaps dry apricot or golden raisin. Fairly strong yeast punch (not always present, but clearly higher with temperature increase). Candied orange peel, which appears to be a common Victory mark. Spice notes include coriander, nutmeg and allspice, with clove the strongest (sounds like I'm mixing a curry powder), with a hint of licorice. Spice notes and dry fruit linger while yeast turns into heat in the finish.

Medium body with noticeable carbonation. A bit boozy, especially at higher temperatures. Unlike most tripels, this one is best at somewhat lower temps--perhaps 42-48F (normally, I drink tripels slightly above cellar temp ~58-60F). This can also mellow with age, which is a bit deceptive in a 12-pack that also has IPA, Pils and PA and has a short expiration date.

I like this beer a lot, although not as much today as I did with the last bottle (I let it warm up a bit too long). This is a perfect 12-pack mix for my money (HopDevil, Headwaters, Prima and Golden Monkey) and I keep going back to the well, so Victory is clearly doing something right. But I'm not sure I would buy this beer by itself, especially in quantity. It's a good alternative to Victory's heavy hand with hops in the other three. But I wish the booze was less pronounced in this otherwise very nice Tripel. The spice notes are stronger than in traditional Tripels, but I like this flavor profile, which is reflected in my well-above-average rating.
