It says it is spicey and it is. Not my taste but to be fair it is as advertised.
-update had it again and it is better than I remembered. Def a top 10 beverage.

This is the one that put us over the top and into the clouds. This fine American interpretation of the quintessential Belgian abbey style was one of the heaviest hitters in our tasting. Our fine local (Monty's Krown Lounge, Rochester, NY) served up a legendary assortment of Victory selections for us, and they were all wonderful.

The color was a spot on deep gold, little to no aroma, stiff malt backbone with delicately balanced hopping, a bit of cloviness, plus a significant (but not overbearing) alcohol contribution that just made you want to dance. Drink my monkey.

Pale -yellow orange color. Not too much head.
Citrussy, alcohol aroma (grapefruit?). Fantastic deep, rich, complex belgian taste.
Light carbonic mouthfeel. Sweet hint of candy sugar.
Even leaves some nice lace on the glass. Overall very good replication of the style.

One of the few micros that I have had in the bottle that was better than the tap version. The golden hazy color of the bottled version is equal to the draft with a little less head, but just as much lacing. The aroma is superb when you first uncap the bottle. There is a hoppy, citrusy smell that is very enticing. It does have an alcohol aroma with its ABV being over 10%.

The taste of the bottled Monkey is really quite extraordinary. It is remindful of some of the better Belgians such as Kwak. I tasted the hoppy nature of this right away but then there is a wheaty undertone, which could as easily be a different variety of barley. The underflavors are citrus, and possibly cardamon. It is very rich in the mouth with the ability to make you want to savor it longer than is necessary to drink it.

In total, I find that Victory has not over-hyped this beer. I think it has not gotten enough press. The taste is almost addictive. At least, I hate to think that I'm coming back just for the high alcohol content. But no, it really is the definition of drinkable.

I have had quite a few tripels over the years. For the price and the taste you can't beat this. Sweet yet sour. You can be tricked into drinking more of these than you should.

They go down smooth and very quenching.

Very similar in taste to Piraat or Moinette.

This is one beer which is always on my to buy list. It many ways reminds me of the Degarre in Bruges.

I just picked up a 4-pack of Victory's DirtWolf IIPA only to find that someone had swapped one with a Golden Monkey. This was my first time trying Victory. Based on the reviews, I didn't have much expectation. However, I am very pleasantly surprised. This beer is incredibly balanced for being 9.5% in my opinion. Some reviewers are saying that it tastes very strong, I didn't find that to be the case at all. Sweet and creamy tripel. Paired incredibly well with spicy food.

I've seen this wonderful golden brew fermenting in their open tanks. What a beautiful sight it is! The perfume in the nose carries over to a fruity flavor on the tongue. The alcoholic content is well hidden and is very drinkable which is scary. This brew is another example of Bill and Ron's desire for quality and responding to what the people want in a beer. Distinctively in the Belgian style, this is made in a small town in PA giving the imports a run for the money. Don't miss this one!

I bought this delightful beer on a whim and now I am officially addicted! Mind you, I had but one bottle and felt slightly tipsy. (OK - I am a small female who doesn't get out too often.) There is a zesty, zippy taste to this beer that forces my palate to beg for more. I highly recommend trying this glowing Belgian ale!

A:medium straw color,head left quickly,nice carbonation.

S:great fruity,yeasty smell.reminds me of banana & subtle spice.

T:This brew is extremely well balanced.everything comes together as you drink it.Tastes very similar to the Belgian brew delirium tremens.

M:perfectly medium body smooth finish.

D:this brew goes down fast!somehow it hides the alcohol content!I love this beer,it is one of my new favorites.I consider this beer to be a work of art.An american beer that that competes with Belgian craft beers, with a cheaper price.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Left less than a finger of pure white head that quickly receded to surface skim, but the surface skim did remain until the end. Not much lacing. Medium yellow gold color with ever so slight haze.

Aroma - spices, mostly cloves, and bready malt, a little sugary, even. Smells good, like some sort of sweet bread from a bakery.

Taste - mostly as promised by aroma, but the cloves actually come on stronger than nose indicates. A lot stronger, actually. There is bread, and a little bit of sugar, and a faint non-offensive hint of alchohol. Not really any thing in the way of hop bitterness, but this is very balanced nonetheless- all the elements seem to come together in a unified whole, and you have to think about the elements seperately to detect them ( except the cloves, they are prominent, but not abusively so to the other elements ((also, I do not know for certain if cloves are the secret exotic spice they use in this, but that is quite unmistakeably what I taste here, so I think with a high degree of certainty that cloves are in fact it. ))). The alcohol I mentioned is very slight, and may really just be an aftertaste of the spices; it is certainly nothing like the distinct taste, and slight burn of alcohol I've found in Victory's Storm King or Old Horizontal (both of which I do like very much, but find very rich, at least in freshly released form (( i.e. not cellared, but rather newly minted)). At any rate this is deliciously spicy from spices, not hops, with a mildly sweet malt backbone, although the hops must be there quietly counterbalancing the sweetness, otherwise this would be sickly sweet, which it certainly isn't, in fact it's just like I alluded to before - that is, a sort of bakery sweetish bread (certainly not a danish, but not a baguette either, but something bready with cloves).

Mouthfeel - full but light at the same time, even a little chewy, the lightness comes from the somewhat high carbonation. Very slight hop oil slickness coating. Does not leave you dry.

Drinkability - I could easily drink one of these after another, after another, etc., which is okay if you're not driving, because of the almost 10% abv., but watch in any case, this goes down easy and the abv is not obvious from taste ( much like decent wine, where you don't taste too much alcohol, so you keep drinking, thinking you're okay ,but then, bam!, seemingly out of nowhere you're buzzed real hard). Good stuff, that I as a hophead can see enjoying frequently as break from hops, and of course, another great offering (of so many other great ones) from Victory.

Pours a cloudy yellow, with a thin white head that doesn't last very long, not much lacing either. Flowery yeasty aroma, sweet and malty, thick and creamy full mouthfeel, warming alcohol taste and an awesome, spicy clove flavor,a big and beautiful trippel, I need more.

In the bottle, this is a terrific beer. On tap, it's exceptional (especially when the "tap" is in the Victory brewpub in Downingtown!). Beautiful Duvel-yellow in color, with a frothy white head. Aromas of sweet citrus and spice, especially coriander. Taste is a magical blend of tropical fruits and spices, again coriander, and perhaps some clove and pepper. This is really an exceptional beer.

Just had this fine brew on tap at the local beer bar. It has a distinct golden color which was quite appealing. While I'm not generally one for pale ales, much less strong ones, this was a very winning combination of silky smooth mouth feel with a nice bite on the finish that was very appealing. Not sure I could drink it for an entire night but it is definitely worth a taste.

Appearance - Very golden, but cloudy. finger size head with lacing throughout my experience of drinking it. The appearance tells you to try it.

Smell - Comes off as almost ginger. Banana with a crisp lemon/type sour smell.

Taste - Very nice carbonation, with a sweet full flavor. Taste the smell with a peppery but slight hoppy ending.

Mouthfeel - Very drinkable, maybe a few would suit me for a night, only because of the sweetness is thick. Not a heavy beer, but very sweet. Very enjoyable and if you enjoy a fruity flavor, this may be your A+

Drinkability - I may buy this beer again, just to enjoy one or two through the week. Not my type of beer, but very good. I recommend trying it. I enjoyed the beer very much so.

$2.99 12 oz bottle. Enjoy By Jun 24 2012.

I've had this on tap one time before and didn't really enjoy it. I remember the taste being just a bit TOO boozy that really overshadowed the Belgian-style ale flavors. Saw a single at the local liquor store and decided to re-evaluate.

Not that much head or lacing when this beer landed in my Duvel glass, but this beer was alive with plenty tiny bubbles (def. a sign of bottle conditioning) and a bright, golden hue.

The aroma of this beer is godly. Banana, passion fruit, mango, white grapes, some pumpkin pie spices, but the main aroma that stuck out was bubblegum straight outta Bazooka Joe.

The taste is classic Tripel. Banana, cloves, yellow apples, more of the nutmeg pumpkin pie spicing, and a slightly medicinal cherry flavor. Some moderate hopping at the end. This beer can give LFDM a run for its money.

The mouthfeel is perfect due to the bottle conditioning. The aftertaste is a bit dry due to the more than usual amount of hops. The high abv limits consumption to one or maybe two bottles in one session. One of the best American made Tripels.

I just got done with a review of Troeg's Scratch #3...Miles down the road you'll find Victory. For those of you lucky enough to find yourself in Belgium at some point in time and experiencing a triple here and then there in a day ...well, I consider myself lucky to be stuck in the center of some well made tripels with in driving distance here in Central PA.

Bottle date: 5/22/07

Eyes: Beer is clear as day and golden ...head arrives early and leaves early.
Nose: Pepper ! and then upon some breathing time ...mild spices only
Tongue: Sweetness ...with a subtle drying finish...nice
Texture: watery with mineral notes
Mouth-happiness : 8^D ...I've conditioned myself to finish several in a night only to want more.

Ron and Bill ...thank you ! A gem of a tripel for the price !

Probably my favorite all-around beer. Good pour, nice golden color, good head. A friend turned me on to this directly from the Victory Brewery. I will always have this in my fridge.

Malty taste and good balance of hops. You can tell from the first taste that this is a well-crafted beer.

WAY TO GO VICTORY!!! Keep up the good work and keep those Monkeys coming!!!

Victory has arrived in Maine, and I am very happy to see it. This beer is a great tripel. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass, the beer was a hazy orange color with a medium-sized white head. It had a fruity (banana) and spicy (clove) aroma. Fruit and spice in the taste, some biscuity malt. Warming alcohol. A very smooth, drinkable beer. I was tempted to drink more of the 6 pack, but stopped after two.

Hazy, peach colored with a white head that holds fairly well, and drops to a nice creamy collar but leaves no lace. The aroma is quite full with a soft fruitiness, some orange, a sweet bready malt, a light spice and some alcohol. The body is medium with a very fine & effervescent carbonation that caresses the tongue and fills the mouth. The taste is rich and full, with candyish malt, spice - some coriander is noticeable, and finishing with a lingering spicy sweet malt. The alcohol is noticeable but not overwhelming. Very well balanced with just enough hop bitterness and spice flavor to keep the big sweet malt from getting out of hand. Not extremely complex, but big. Very rich and highly enjoyable.

The flavor reminds me a bit of a white beer, like Celis, but it is a strong ale & it hides the alcohol very well. I am sure glad that it is now readily available in southern california. Another fine beer from Victory. For such an elegant beer, it could be easily used to convert the BMC fool to great beer

Golden moderately carbonated brew with a solid white head that stays well and leaves a nice lace.
Very hoppy scent, some good spice and caramel, earthly as well.
Taste is unbelievable! hoppy and sweet at the same time in perfect harmony, aftertaste is next to nonexistant which makes you reach for the beer constantly, this is a highly alcoholic beer but you wouldn't know from the taste. Some light grain quality to the flavor is present but subtle.
Full and solid body, doesn't leave much of an impression in the way of being slick yet feels smooth and mellow.
Very drinkable, this beer drinks itself.
Absolutely amazing!@#

Poring a glass of golden, cloudy sunshine, I watch the yeasty sediment dance to the rhythm of the fading bubbly white head.

Inhaling an orchard of fruity tones and warm spices makes my mouth begin to water. I can’t wait to taste this exotic smelling brew.

A rich, chewy mouth feel confirms my expectations of a warming, delicately spiced drink. Is there a presence of sweet honey or wheat? Is there a teasing clove in there? These questions fade as I take another mouthful and smile as the warm alcohol falls down my throat and leaves a lingering hint of sweet maltiness and satisfying hops.

I love this beer.

As good of a brewery as Victory is, this tripel is a good example of their excellence. A sharp, spicy beer where the alcohol content kicks your ass if you don't watch it.

A belgian style tripel is one of those beers that often is an aquired taste. The complexity is often too sophisticated for the average joe six pack. I'm not saying that the average guy is unsophisticated, I'm saying that one really has to train his or her taste buds for something of this caliber. It's like going from a Daisy bb gun to a .50 cal. It just doesn't work. But once you have learned to appreciate one of these beers, it's love.
Golden Monkey, by Victory is an excellent example of one of these beers. Pouring a orange hue with flakes floating through it and a slight, modest head, this appears to be a specail treat.
The aroma is that of banana and white grape juice along with mild floral accents. It really gives the sences something to look forward to.
The taste is super complex. Banana, sugars, grapes, with a mild bitterness that really brings things together.
I am in love.
