Bottle purchased from Slowbeer in Melbourne.

Pours a pleasantly hazed deep amber, with flashes of red to it. Head is full, frothy and reasonably persistent, maintaining the majestic crest synonymous with a good IPA. Lacing is sketchy and sticky. Looks good.

Nose is a pleasant mildly fragrant, slightly fruity hop bonanza, giving a fresh (if generic) American hop aroma. Looking underneath, there's a slight meaty savouriness to the malt and even a weird salty or smoky hint. This is a very, very subtle character, however, but it's what sets it apart—mostly this falls squarely in "generic IPA" territory.

Taste is light, nutty and clear, with a mild bitterness through to the back, and a fragrant if slightly muted and stilted hop character. Finish has hints of pine and lavender, giving a clear bite to the aftertaste. Feel is smooth and supple. The taste is, however, quite generic, and it feels slightly flat, as if it has been cut through and dynamically shortened.

A decent brew, but not one of the best IPAs I've had. It just feels a little flatter and more generic. Despite the intrigue promised on the nose, this really ended up being "just another IPA".

Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a thick off white head that laces the glass as it goes down. Ends up being a thin soapy line of bubbles.

Sweet toasted malt with a nice citrus grapefruit and pine hop aroma.

The flavor starts with a sweet toasted malt and floral hop flavor that blends with citrusy grapefruit hop. None of the flavors are overpowering, they all blend very well with one another. The finish is where the pine hop shows up and leaves a bitter aftertaste with a lingering toasted malt and alcohol flavor. Feel is light to medium with carbonation that fills out the beer and makes it smooth.
One of the best IPAs out there. An all around balanced beer.

Poured into a Bluepoint shaker pint glass.

A: Pours a beautiful deep amber with a slightly brown-tinted, plentiful head. Great lacing and lots of bubbles of varying sizes.

S: Dank resin-like aromas, biscuit, honey, grapefruit,

T: Herbal, citrus, pine, biscuit, toasty, alcoholic. Sits fairly heavy on the palate with moderate carbonation, adding a velvety feel to the mix. A well-balanced finish in terms of malt and hops with a long-lasting aftertaste.

A good beer overall. A bit hard to pick out the characteristics but regardless an enjoyable beer to drink. A good job on the balance of malt and hops while still displaying qualities characteristic of an IPA, that is, hop-forwardness. I would say it lives up to its name with the overstated hop character. I am beginning to feel more and more relaxed as the glass gets emptier...

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a two finger that has reduced to a nice puffy layer. It is a deep amber copper color with good clarity and signs of carbonation coming up through the glass. Nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: citrus and piney hops, bready and caramel malts. All of which are typical and common of IPA's.

Taste: Veyr hop forward and enough malts in there to balance out the flavor for the most part. Some lingering bitterness, but not too annoying.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, full bodied, medium carbonation, some bitterness, and easy to enjoy.

Overall: I have had this plenty of times over the years on draft and in a bottle. Thought I reviewed it, but it was the Hop Wallop. Both are solid Victory offerings and go to beers if in the IPA mood.

My introduction to the beauty of the hop over 10 years ago. Pours a sweet reddish brown with a nice head and good lacing. The aroma is a piney hop and a clean beer. Taste is more bitter and less sweet. Great beer and for sure a benchmark for Victory.

This is probably one of the best IPA's I've had, and a beer that I'll return to from time to time. You can't go wrong with Hopdevil. Very hop-heavy, with a a bitter, but well balanced aftertaste. Very piney/grassy, with a medium bodied feel. Tonight I've had 4 IPA's, Titan IPA (Great Divide) , Union Jack IPA (Firestone), Stone IPA (Stone), and Hopdevil. Out of the four, I'd go back to this one first. If you've ever tried the Union Jack or the Stone, this is a similar beer in regards to it's high hop presence and grassy/piney/floral taste. Try it!

Looks like a very robust color for the style. Love the white lacing on the side of the glass. Off smells of cat urine and dog feces. ( I smell these in many dipas).
The taste shines on this one. Refreshing, wet, and bitter. Nice malts to sooth that ohhh so good bitterness. Some peach, mango, and pineapple try to come through. A very strong hop bitter aftertaste. This is a rather moist Ipa. A very good offering from Victory.
