On tap at Buffalo Wild Wings. Perfect pairing for wings and baseball.

A - A shade or two darker than orange. Has a fat white head. Nothing stunning, but clearly well-done.

A - Honey-like malt, a little toast. Lots of floral hops. Pine and Citrus follow. This beer could be an air-freshener, still it's not the blast I recall. Could be the moment. Could be the beer. I know I've been more blown away; not just by other beers, but also other samplings of HopDevil.

T - sweet and chewy, with some very strong citrus notes present. This never becomes as spicy as a recall. There've been times when I drank this beer and a 16oz was way too harsh and gritty to finish. This beer came out smoother, though the bitterness mounted as the glass finished.

This beer definitely throws a more interesting malt backbone than average. It's not as dry, but it's also not as sweet as many other hoppy beers. Picking a camp for it is hard to do. That's why I think the Vienna malt is such a good choice for basemalt... and hops up well to the blast of Centennial and Cascade.

M - thick, but occasionally creamy. It's not one to pound. take your time.

O -I often feel the venue matters a lot. Certain places get there hands on quality product, but don't handle it well. Had this one at Buffalo Wild Wings. I recall their Centennial IPA also waned over the course of months they offered it. Maybe it's me, maybe I am right. I dunno.

Regardless, this is an IPA that deserves to be counted among the national greats. Some may prefer others, but this has a deserved placed in the the pantheon. A little more rugged and a little thicker than average, this is a treat and a challenge in one package.

Poured into a Samichlaus tulip. Best by the end of this month.

Deep amber with a good head, retention and lacing. Looks are certainly of a maltier/malt forward IPA. Aroma? Not IPA. Smaller strong ale? Amber ale? Whatever but not AIPA like. Caramel malt is strong in this one and hops are not aggressive in the aroma.

Taste follows the aroma... malty sweet with bitterness in a balancing role, getting prominent only toward the end. The hop flavors are also deeper and earthier even though it is mentioned clearly on the label that American hops are used.

Good body with alive carbonation; still a little too sweet in its finish and aftertaste. Overall it's pretty good. Can't say that I will buy it again given that I can get fresh Furious all the time which is an excellent example of an IPA with a malt character.
