12 oz. bottle, purchased locally ($8.99/6). Marked "enjoy by 5/22/12," so bottled on 12/5/11. Poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: Slightly hazy; an interesting, but darker-than-normal amber/brown, with dense, off-white foam that leaves a consistent sheet of white lacing; subtle effervescence.

S: Spicy, citrus & pine.

T: Primarily pine, followed by grapefruit, mango and spice; slight floral; toasty caramel malt; some sweetness; modest bitterness.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation; rich, resinous and smooth; neutral finish; no noticeable heat.

O: Delivers balance and complexity; distinct characteristics; very well crafted.

disappointing aroma, hoppy but not that grassy IPAish aroma I love, amber color with a nice head that sticks around for a while, Hoppy but completely balanced by the malts, Extremely smooth! but could use a stronger hop finish, I was expecting more from this beer...I prefer west coast IPAs...

Served on cask at The Brewhouse Grille.

A - Pours clear copper orange with a thin film of white head leaving very little lace down the glass.

S - Smells of plenty of caramel sweetness, some light hop bitterness and some dulled citric fruit. Cask may not be the best serving method for this one, seems to kill some of the usually bright nose.

T - Starts off with a bit of hop bitterness quickly giving way to plenty of sweet caramel malt and a bit of dulled citric fruit. Finish is pretty sweet with a bit of bitterness, not lingering for very long. This one may be a bit old but the cask serving really didn't help much either.

M - Smooth body with a light hoppy feel and moderately low carbonation. It looked dead when it was poured and didn't get much better.

O - I have always enjoyed Hop Devil and while this wasn't the best I have had, this one was no different. Glad I gave it a try but I think I will stick to on-tap for this one.

A-Clear amber, well carbonated, one finger head that leaves behind some lacing.

S-Good deal of hops, mainly grass and pine notes with some citrus.

T-Starts with grass, pine and earthy notes, good deal of bitterness. Some citrus with good balance.

M-Medium bodied, good deal of carbonation, rather smooth.

O-A nice earthy IPA. Could have used a tad more bitterness though.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
No born on date or other distinguishing numbers

A: Pours a translucent amber with a light mahogany hue, and 1.5 fingers width of light khaki colored head.  Leaves a small amount of random patchy lacing.

S: Caramel malts and spicy hops.   Some piney hop aromas as well and subtle citrusy notes, but surprisingly more malt sweetness than hop presence.

T: More hop character in the taste than the nose.  Some citrusy characters of orange lemon zest, peach and grapefruit, along with a prominent hop spice.  A firm malt backbone brings a sweetness that balances things out nicely. A piney hop bitterness comes out on the back end as it warms.  I wouldn't call it a hop bomb, even though there is a significant hop presence, because there is a big malt presence as well.  Very well balanced and tasty.

M/D: Pretty smooth for the style.  Moderate carbonation and a medium body.  Good drinkability, certainly a sessionable IPA.  Very nice mouthfeel.

O: Overall, a very good IPA bordering on great, that I find myself going to fairly often.  Good flavor profile and drinkability, and it's ready available and reasonably priced.  Certainly worthy of a try.  I will add that I prefer it out of the bottle over on tap, as the hop characters are more prevalent from the bottle.

Bought a single bottle as a part of a "make your own 6-pack". Honestly its a lot different than I was expecting. Big, bold flavor with very little bitterness, pretty spicy, but not as hoppy as I was hoping for,
The 6.7% ABV is hidden well, but it just tasted to me like a "dark" beer, not so much your standard IPA.

Overall not bad, but not something I would rush out to buy again, especially not if I was in the mood for an IPA. Definitely wouldn't mind paying $3.50 for a pint though at a bar.

355ml bottle.Pint glass. Enjoyed on jun´11.Orangish brass color. Foggy. Yellowish white copious foam.Good retention & sumptuous lacing rings. Malts & acid hops salute in nose, bready notes too.Esters explote in mouth but yield to the warming alcohol quickly masked by hops with an extra dry but oily bitterness.Incredible creamy & buttery mouthfeel.Good drinkability. Refreshing beer. A big one!
