High-powered with all German malts and the subtle, spicy complexity of our special yeast, Mad King's Weiss offers a quenching quality that can't be beat.

Poured from growler into tall hefe glass.

Yellow with hints of browny orange. Wouldnt say it is hazy, but not perfectly clear. Perfectly white bubbly head.

Muted sweet aroma with a definite spicyness and smell of bananas.

Taste is pretty good. Not as sweet as i expected. Would describe it as a bigger Sunrise but lacking on sweetness. Was honestly hoping it would be more like a Leffe giving the ABV.

Drinks smoothly and quickly. Which doesnt need a warning since this beer comes in at 6.2%. Carbonation is very present but not aggressive. Ends with a bitter dryness in the back of the throat.

Hefes are not my thing, but i wanted to give this a try as it is a brewpub exclusive.

22oz bottle poured into a chalice.

A: Sunny golden color with a good amount of haze. Fine-bubbled white head retains at a half inch. Small clumps of lacing.

S: Strong bready and wheaty base. Plenty of doughy yeast. Slightly chalky. Mild incense sort of smell. The yeast I character is more neutral than I thought it would be. Grassy hops. Vague hints of light stone fruits.

T: Wheaty and a bit tangy and lemony up front. Chalky yeast. Vague fruitiness. Soft peppery touch. Spicy and herbal hop flavors build toward the back but never get too bold. Trailing herbal hop flavors.

M: Light bodied. Crispness of the carbonation bites right through the frothy texture.

O: A safe and perhaps underachieving beer. It's perfectly inoffensive and crushable, but for all it was billed to be it lacks character

This is a kristallweiss, NOT a hefeweizen.

Arrives a clear, dark yellow with just a faint ring of white on a very full glass. Obviously not a hefe as there is no little yeasties floating here.
Smell is malt, banana, clove and citrus. A good balance achieved here. Complexity is a bit low though.
Taste is malt, tart, banana, clove, pepper and light hops. Well balanced as well.
Fairly full body with a tangy effervescence up front and a slightly cleansing finish. Alcohol makes an appearance after the swallow. Warming. All told, a good beer but nothing great. Hops crept into the aftertaste a bit excessively. And oddly, I got a huge case of hiccups drinking this, something that normally only happens when I drink soda (and then only at the beginning). Weird.

On draft at Victory into .5L

Pours with a healthy, fluffy white head over a surprisingly clear, golden body

Aromas are faint. Maybe just too cold? Cardboard, yeast, salty ocean, white pepper, and just a touch of lemon.

Flavors are more in line with a standard APWA, but not a true hefeweizen. Light lemony citrus, green banana peel, some whole grain bread, and peppery finish. Plenty of flavor.

Mouthfeel was a bit off. For a 6% hefeweizen I'd expect creamy smooth, but I'm getting highly carbonated with a dry finish.

This is an enjoyable, easy drinking beer. Unfortunately just doesn't quite fit the style.

Bottle: Poured a lightly hazy blonde color ale with a nice pure white foamy head. Aroma of light wheat malt with dry hoppy finish. Taste is a mix of wheat malt notes with light sweet notes offset by some dry non-descript hops notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but seems like this one is stuck between the classic weizen and the hoppyweizen and is not sure where to go at.
