Presentation: 12 oz longneck, Enjoy by date printed on the label - it seems to be a year or so out.. seems a bit long for a weiss? Lots of description on the label.

Appearance: Pours with a great billowy white head, yellow with just a hint of orange, and some clouds in there.

Smell: Lots of fruit - some banana and a bit of citrus, and also a nice yeasty pepperiness.

Taste: Nice spicey and balanced by some great fruit flavors. Very drinkable, lots of wheat flavor in there too.

Overall impression: Great wheat beer - definitely one of the better American offerings. Great balance, highly highly drinkable.

A - A clear golden color. Lots of head retention. Very nice.

S - Wonderful. Lemon, wheat. Strong aromas. Exactly what you expect in a good Hefe.

T - I am not a huge wheat beer/Hefeweizen fan. However, Victory has sold me on this one. Very mild flavors of lemon, wheat.

M - Very smooth. Nice carbonation and light bodied.

D - As good as this style gets in my opinion. Poor another round!

Well yes I can't lie I have an ongoing relationship with Victory that's clear and yes I'm not one of those craft brewing lover's who hate wheat beers. In this case I found a great representation of the American brewed hefeweizen quite the rare creation if you ask me. It appears a clouded golden hue that is reminiscient of one of the most promising hefeweizens with a large cloudy white head that leaves behind thick bands of lacing. Aroma contains thick billowing layers of banana and vanilla that could go on all day in my nostrils with a sharp wheat citrus toned quality about it, let's just say it's damn good. Taste consists of soft marshmellow, banana, and vanilla phenols strongly brought on by yeast characteristics along with more sharp wheat characteristics and citrus notes. Mouthfeel has an effervescent highly carbonated champagne mouthfeel very much like the best of the best German brewed hefeweizens I love it. Drinkability is over and over again one of my favorite domestic versions of this style bring more on thanks Bill C. and Ron B. good guys believe me I know.

Pours a pale yellow color with plenty of visible carbonation bubbles. The head was two fingers thick, and some spotty lacing developed. The aroma was of wheat, banana, clove, and citrus. The flavor followed the nose, as the banana, clove, lemon, and general spiciness were nicely balanced with some light bitterness and grainy wheat.

Mouthfeel was very crisp at the start and finish, and the finish was also slightly dry and refreshing. Superb drinkability, as several of these can be enoyed in a single session. One of my more favorite hefe's on the market today.

Hazy, pale yellow-white in hue; the liquid looks warm and agreeable. White head, at the apex the foam was three-fingers tall. The head retention was fairly solid; it slowly and steadily faded to a thin soapy cap… and then a soapy ring. There was no subsequent lacing. Damn, otherwise this beer looks really good. Nitpicking, maybe but head retention and lacing are critical to the appearance of this style. Both areas could use a boost. Still, it is good-looking wheat beer.

The nose says clearly, “I am a Hefe Weizen and not some misguided American Wheat beer!” Hell yeah! Lightly citrusy with hints of cloves and bananas, it is wheat too. In the background are kisses of bubblegum and marshmallows. I am impressed; the nose is very well-rounded and tremendously articulate. This is easily one of the best domestic Hefes I have had the pleasure of smelling. Inviting… truly lovely!

The palate is special. Wheaty throughout, sometimes Hefes lack this quality. Sure, bready is nice but wheaty is wonderful! It is lightly clovey and faintly peppery at the back, with some bananas too, there is also a pleasant jolt of lemon zest. Very refreshing! It is hoppy for a Hefe, flowery and moderately bitter. IMO, this makes the beer even more invigorating then, say, Paulaner’s version. While both are good, Victory seems to have added a little extra layer of loveliness. The aftertaste is a bit short but I can live with it… cleansing. The lemony residue is really pleasant. There aren’t many areas this beer could improve in; it fits my mental image of a Hefe almost to the letter. If there were louder banana and bubblegum notes I would drool all over myself. It is really one of the better Hefes I have had, it is no Weihenstephaner but what is?

Medium in body, moderate levels of fizzy carbonation, which tickles my throat as it happily slides down. The carbonation aids the refreshing nature of the taste. The mouthfeel fits this beer well. What a great tasting, juicy beer that begs to be drank.

Which leads to the obvious fact, this beer is drinkable. What a great Summer Beer! It is kicking ass in December! I could kill a keg of this myself on any giving day. Just think… burgers, Victory Weiss, a lawn chair and shade. Oh my, that could be heaven. This beer is in great shape for a summer seasonal. I got my bottle via a trade with RedHaze. Thanks a bunch, this was a great Hefe and one of the best domestic interpretations I have had. If you haven’t tried it, do so!

A - Poured into a weissebier glass this beer produces a monumental head that is coherent enough to rise a good inch above the rim of the glass without collapsing. The beer comes out of the bottle crystal clear until my swirling and adding the dregs causes a cloud of yeast to slowly spread through the glass.

S - Lots of clove and a little bit of banana. Some vanilla and maybe smoke as well. Very satisfying weisse beer aroma.

T - A more even mix of banana and clove than in the aroma. Creamy vanilla note on top followed by herbal hops and just a hint of smoke in the finish. Slightly metallic aftertaste.

M - High carbonation, medium body.

D - Wow, this is a great bavarian style wheat beer, and as such it is ridiculously drinkable. The aroma and appearance are spectacular and the flavor is pretty good as well (though I prefer a balance that favors banana and bubble gum more than clove). Overall this is a beautiful example of a style that can be quite difficult to perfect. I am continually amazed at Victory's prowess at brewing classic beer styles.

The beer poured with a thick and murky yellow-gold color with some thick lacing on the sides and a thin head. Aromas were pungently strong and sweet. Lemons, yeasts, breads, slight spice. Taste has a great sweetness to it. Perfect dry balance of citrus and biscuit-aspects; definitely one of the best tasting hefes. Mouthfeel is really crisp and refreshing. Really brings out that dry taste and makes you want more and more. Victory continues with some high quality here.

12 oz. bottle, poured into weizen glass:

Pours clouded light golden yellow with a 2 finger white creamy head that thins and stays. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of banana/clove, some floral notes, a slight hint of smoke. Quite robust - very fragrant.

The taste is of banana/clove over a wheat tang. Subtle floral notes and slight subtle, distant smokiness add to depth and complexity. Semi-sweet turns into a dry-ish, crisp finish.

Light-to-medium-bodied. This has the hallmark flavors of a traditional Bavarian HW with a bit of heft to it. Quite complex for the style. A great American interpretation of a Bavarian HW.

12 oz bottle
Pours a light, hazy, golden color with a small but well formed white head. Retention is lacking and there is very little lacing.
Smell is pretty good. Loads of yeastiness, a bit of citrus, light wheatiness. Definite banana and clove aromas as well.
Taste is delicate and well balanced. A near perfect Weiss. Banana, clove, yeastiness, and just a bit of wheat sourness. A good blend of maltiness and bitter and spicy hops as well.
Mouthfeel is light, but that's what I want in this beer, it's easy drinking all the way.
Overall, a good Weiss beer. Definitely worth it on a hot summer day or night, or whenever. A great and refreshing beer.

Beer was cloudy yellow with a smallish head for the style. Aroma was typical weizen smells of citrus, clove and a bit of grassiness. Flavor was very citrusy with just a bit of hop and grassiness with a drier than expected mouthfeel. A very drinkable beer and a fine example of the style, I would definitely drink more if I could get a hold of it.

A: Hazy straw with huge head the recedes nicely with spotty lacing.

S: Banana, clove, citrus, and bready yeast flavors.

T: This is a clove bomb if there is one. Cloves dominate but there is a lot of lemon notes as well.

M: Creamy and smooth with a crisp, dry citrus finush.

D: There is a lot of flavor in this beer yet it is extremely easy to drink. A few ticks less on the ABV's and this would be a perfect on the drinkablility for me.

Poured from 12 oz bottle:

Pours a light, cloudy golden color with a 1 finger head that quickly disappeared leaving little to no lacing.

Smell: Banana, banana, banana, interspersed with a bready, yeasty aroma.

Taste: Banana flavors dominate with hints of spice, clove and yeast. Very crisp and refreshing. I like this one a lot.

Mouthfeel is sort of bready and smooth.

This is a very good Hefe, I like this better than a Franziskaner. An easy drinker that would be a great session brew. Victory comes out on top of the Hefe. Seek and enjoy. Perfect for a hot summer night.

On-tap at the Victory Brewery and Pub:

Poured an opaque banana peel color that looked finely done wheat. But it had only a minimal head, some even lace, and no stain. Darn.

Smelled of mild banana and minimal clove, a quality lactic tone, and a very fresh and firm wheat background. Taste was of very fresh and firm wheat, with an appetizing sour flavor and a fruitiness (some banana, more mellow tropical fruits) that was small and wrapped up underneath the strong sour flavor though nevertheless an important presence. Small finish was refreshing and without any lingering yeasty, bitter, or creamy flavors.

Quick and palette cleansing, highly refreshing, to me this was a quality hefe-weizen without surprises, imbalances, or anything else. A nice by-the-numbers textbook version.

Served on-tap at Bodega on 6/9/11 in a standard pint glass. Appears a hazy pale yellow color with a decent bubbly white head. Not a great amount of lacing, but this beer still looks wonderful.

The aroma is full of wheat and other light malts and nice wheat hints. There are also nice fruity scents, mostly citrus. The taste is very similar. Very tangy on the tongue with the wheat and the fruit. There are nice clove spices as well. Everything seems to fit together well and really works great.

The mouthfeel is just right, medium to light bodied, good amounts of carbonation and it goes down very smoothly and easily. Overall, this is a great beer. It is easy drinking, very flavorful and is something that works great on a hot day.

A- Translucent very light straw yellow body with uniform cloudiness. Pours with a huge creamy white head that slowly settles to 1 finger and has great retention. Some lacing is left behind in the glass.

S- Lots of citrus upfront with a big peppery spice essence. Big yeasty and banana smell in the background.

T- Lots of peppery spice upfront with accents of citrus and bubblegum. Firm yeasty backbone. The finish is a combination of citrus and bitter hops and comes off a little bit acidic. Sweet bready yeast along with a residual spiciness linger. I just love this spiciness in a hefe.

M- High carbonation and sweet, smooth yeasty body with just the right amount of thickness.

D- This is a great job by Victory. Great interpretation of a German Hefe. This is a great and drinkable summer beer. Its too bad I didn't pick it up until after the release of all the Oktoberfests. Will stock up on plenty of this next year.

I have to admit that I am enjoying some Hefe's this season. Have really developed a taste for them. Since Victory is one of my favorite brewers, I figured it was time to try their version.

Pours with a pillowy/fluffy white head that stays for a bit then settles to a ring of thick foam around the glass. Thick clumps of lacing stick all inside the glass. Cloudy pale straw colored beer. Spot on look for the style.

Aroma is very fresh, slighty earthy, some yeast and pepper. Yes Banana.

Flavor is very nice and spicy. Lots of wheat grains, banana, coriander, white pepper.. Some decent spice to this.

Mouth feel is effervescent, refreshing and light.

Love this and it's very drinkable. Great summer beer. Love it.

12 oz. bottle poured into a weissbier glass with 3 fingers of white head that dissipates slowly leaving some lacing. Pale straw color, clear at the bottom and wispy-cloudy at the top of the glass. Aroma of banana, cloves and a lemony acid twang. Taste is clean and refreshing. Well balanced with a hint of banana and lemon in the dry, slightly bitter finish. Light mouthfeel with exceptional drinkability.

Hazy straw yellow under about 3 fingers worth of white foam. Scant lacing and decent retention. Lemon, grassy notes with a solid wheat base. A bit fruity sweet to start the flavor but not too much so. Light lemon and grassy notes here as well. Solid wheat flavor with more lemon. A bit light in the body but very refreshing and tasty. Very drinkable stuff and definitely one of the best American versions I have had. I’m not real big on the style overall but I will be buying more of this for sure.

Cloudy sunny gold body, low carbonation, white mostly creamy head with small bubbles with good retention and lace.
Scent is wheat and yeast, mildly spiced and fresh.
Mild, sweet and refreshing taste. Malts and hops are wellbalanced in this appropriately named sunny experience of a beer.
Aftertaste is a gently rolling wheat field in your mouth.
Full body, wetting and refreshing.
Highly drinkable and a brew I'll remember for next summer as a thirst quencher.

Pours into the glass nicely. There is no need to worry about getting a good head on this one. As the beer is unfiltered, you should swirl it about two-thirds of the way through the pour which generates all the head you need. Speaking of head. the beer's head is pure white and disappears quickly. When tipped, there isn't much lacing at all. Getting back to the "hefe," or with wheat part of the beer, the beer is nice and cloudy. I don't take my beer with fruit, so there is no lemon tainting this review. The smell is crisp and sweet. Banana is very prevelant to the nose, and apple is there to drive the scent home. After a few sips two thoughts came to mind... "Damn, this is dry," and "Good thing I have more." Sunrise is the perfect summer seasonal. Thin and crisp, good for serving at about 45 degrees. There you have it. Crisp, cold, and yummy. As always, Victory has produced another winner.

Sunrise Weisse pours a nice looking cloudy golden colour with a decent sized puffy white head. Stickiness is surprisingly minimal here.

The smell is a great combo of wheat spice, lemon, bubble gum, sugar and grass with a touch of hop aroma thrown into the mix. Nice stuff overall.

The flavour is more of the same, although sweetness and hop presence are more apparent. A subtle bubble gum taste lingers throughout and the finish is even a tad juicy at times.

Mouthfeel is decent though a little dissapointing as it is not as carbonated overall as I'd like for the style. It lacks a bit of a bite.

Overall this is a nice thirst quenching summer brew. Easily recommended.

Pours a golden white color with a two-finger head into my glass. Looks about right for the style but is actually closer to a witbier color.

Aroma is full of clove and slight banana as well. Wheat is also prominent as it should be. Very good.

Taste is slightly chewy with a good dollop of clove in the mouth. Full of flavor here. Just a slight hint of banana.

Mouthfeel is full of lingering clove. Nothing harsh. Refreshing.

Very good example and wonderful for a hot day. Victory knows their stuff with this style.

Living within an arms reach of this brewery I frequent a meal or two every so often as a cheat for my diet. During the spring and summer months when Sunrise is on tap it's a given that I will have at least one!!

I'm not big on wheat beers, but to me Sunrise is easily my most favorite to readily drink.

It has a hazy, almost ripe orangey-yellow to it that you can't see through due to it being an unfiltered beer. The head somewhat laces around the edges of the glass which is not always typical of a wheat style.

The smell is fantastic and refreshing. It has a slight citrus smell but nothing overbearing or out of the ordinary.

The taste of this beer is beautifully assembled by the yeast and malts fermenting rather than the added ingredients for flavor. You get that same typical clove, citrus and off banana taste to it; yet none of those are involved in the brewing process.

Mouthfeel is not overly carbonated nor under carbonated, it's just right. Being unfiltered some beers can leave some sediment in your mouth from time to time... This is not one of them unless you're drinking it from a bottle.

If you ever have the chance to give this a shot, it's a sure-fire thumbs up!!
