A very clear caramel/amber in color. Half a finger of off white head that dissipates fairly quick. A bit of lacing left down the glass. The aroma is sweet, almost a butterscotch candy type of smell. Malty, a little nutty, like fruitcake. The flavor is all of these elements, and is bready, lots of caramel sweetness; a bit too much, I think. The feel is medium thin body, mildly dry, and average carbonation. Overall, it is a bit too sweet and tame, for me.

Really nice deep orange/Amber color. Toasted malt, sugar, almost candy like aroma. Taste was similar but a bit weak and a little disppointing. It felt a little thin and there was a but of a sour bitter aftertaste

Interesting beer. Pours a beautiful dark Amber from the bottle I picked up at the supermarket. Smell and flavor is very strong but I am not a fan. I get the faint caramel but overall this is a little thin and lifeless. I will keep looking for a fall beer.

Poured from a recently purchased bottle dated best by 12/17 into the test glass.
A - Deep copper toned, clear and beautiful. thin cap is supported by gentle carbonation.
S - Malts all the way, sweet caramel, with a hint of orange, brown sugar.
T - Follows the nose well, excellent malt display.
M - Medium in body, soft on the palate, finish is sweet but nicely dry.
O - A robust interpretation, with a lot of caramel in the offering, a very nice beer

Pours a clear, deep amber color with a little bit of head that faded away rapidly. Smells richly of brown sugar and toasted malts. Taste is sweet, caramel, with a little black tea flavor coming in towards the middle and end. Medium light body, minimal carbonation. Tasty, but not as much as the aroma would have you believe, seems to be slightly above average as far as marzens go this year.

This beer has a deep see through amber hue with a thick tan head. Almost smells like some unsweetened dark chocolate or a nutty scent melding into a malt center. Interesting scent that I think is pretty inviting. Flavor translates with the nutty malt and slight caramel mix with really no bitterness. Medium carbonation with a slightly thinner feel. All in all not bad at all but I wanted more from the flavor after smelling this brew.

If you have ever been to a place brewing their own beer and noticed that smell in the air during the mashing process and wanted that smell replicated in the taste of your beer, then this is the beer for you. This beer includes a decoction mash that brings that smell to your tongue. It is the most unique Oktoberfest beer I have ever had in America.

It pours dark copper with a nice head. The aroma is matky with intense burnt bread and coffee notes. Very interesting nose profile for a Marzen. The taste is sweet upfront with more coffee, burnt bread, toasty malts and some caramel. Medium body.

12oz bottle bb 1/1/18 poured into a .5 L krug at fridge temp 5.6% ABV. The beer pours a bright deep red amber color with cream colored head. The head recedes to a skim coat and ring around the mug. Aroma is nutty and malty. The flavor is a blend of toasted malts, nutty tones and semi sweet bread. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated and dry on the finish. No perceptible bitterness, yet no lingering or cloying sweetness in the taste or finish. The label mentions German malts and decoction mashing. That is easy to believe as this has a distinct German character. Overall, very good maybe great Oktoberfest.

Popped the cap of a 12 ounce bottle and, woah, goodness, the roasty caramel aroma is aggressive on this one. I am so, so glad marzen season starts so early now.

Pours dark amber, translucent and fizzy. Not much of a head, but still an appealing enough pour.

Smells intense, like I noted. Very aggressive malt: tons of caramel, some nuts, and a little burnt peat. It's a strong and rough aroma, maybe a bit less smooth than the paragons of the style, but still very charming.

Tastes good, but not as good as the aroma. Caramel dominates throughout, starting very sweet, getting a middle that's marked by nodes of yeast and tea, and then finishing rough and earthen.

Dark amber color. Malty nose with perhaps some brown sugar. Taste has almost no hops. Caramel malt is dominant, with a sweetness that's not quite cloying, but excessive in my opinion. Body is pretty light, with very little head retention. Would prefer more carbonation. I'm a bit disappointed with this 2017 batch, as Victory is one of my favorite breweries. —Reviewed 2017/08/11
